Interesting Facts about Gold
Hello Gold Enthusiasts!
As I've mentioned previously, I've always had a "thing" for Au. That said, I don't think I'm alone in that! I feel like it might be coded into our DNA somehow or baked into the recesses of our minds. So I started poking around the interwebs and discovered some fun facts. The following list is not exhaustive and is NOT my original content. However, all the smart commentary following the facts are my own, ha ha!
- Gold has been discovered on every continent on Earth.
- You can eat gold!
I didn't believe this at first, but I saw this post: https://steemit.com/travel/@garrettwey/order-a-hamburger-with-a-gold-bun and I guess it's real! - I have gold in my blood! ...and so do you apparently!
On Avg, humans have about 0.2 mg in their bodies. Though I guess if you eat that burger, the concentration increases, right? - Earthquakes somehow create gold when interacting with water deep in the Earth's crust.
From what I gather, it has to do with sudden widening of rock fissures, causing rapid drops in pressure allowing the gold to seep out. My simple mind reads this as "earthquakes make rocks bleed gold by releasing trapped water". I could be wrong. Where are the Steemit geologists? - All the gold ever mined in the word can be fit into only 3 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
- The world's oceans contain roughly 20 Million tons of gold!
Get that underwater metal detector ready! - Most of the Earth's gold comes from space!
More specifically, meteorites long, long ago. - Nearly half of all the gold ever mined comes from South Africa!
- Aurophobia is the fear of gold.
Wow! Does that mean I have the opposite? ...and would that make me an Aurophile? - 11% of all gold is held by Indian housewives, more than the claimed reserves of the US, IMF, Switzerland, and Germany combined!
If you're a single Aurophile, go find yourself a widowed Indian housewife RIGHT NOW!!!

That's crazy how much Gold Indian women own. I knew they liked gold but wow. Thanks for sharing these cool facts.
As for geology, the heavy gold during earth cool of went to the lower layers and it takes a meteorite ( South Africa) or plate movements ( California) to get it up a little.
...So, you're saying meteorites and tectonic plate movements are gold's Viagra? 😭

And you can drink it too. There is a German alcoholic beverage called Danziger Goldwasser (38 vol %) that has small particles of gold inside.

Point #4 is interesting, it could be that when salt water seeps into the crevice the water is steamed off leaving the minerals e.g. gold.
