# 196 - Washington-Carver
Continuing our series of the American Half Dollars Commemoratives, we will today present the 1951-S “Washington-Carver".
As all the commemorative half dollars, it weights 12,5g with a 90% silver purity.
This coin was produced to honor one of America's best known black educators, Booker T. Washington and Dr. George Washington Carver, who distinguished himself in the fields of agricultury and botany.
The obverse features a three quarter profile portrait of Booker T. Washington behind the profile portrait of George Washington Carver.
The reverse featured a map of the United States, omitting Delaware, with the surrounding legend: "Freedom and Opportunity for All - Americanism"
A total of 10,004 coins were distributed by the San Francisco Mint on 1951. The actual price is around U$200.00 in this grade.
This series will continue very soon.

Why did they omit Delaware?
If you look at the coin, Delaware is missing. It was an error when the dies were made and it was only noticed after the coins were sold.
