New Study Underway...Hong Kong Shanghai Specie Office.

I have posted a couple Hong Kong Shanghai Specie Office silver ingots here on Steemit. I started collecting them a couple years ago. There have been many fakes discovered over the years. In fact, I also posted an article here demonstrating some fake versions.

Due to its believed origin. It is often confused with being produced in China. That is not the case. These ingots were produced in the 1970s in the US. The history is actually tied to a significant player in the precious metal industry.(I am working on putting the documentation together). That documentation will be published and used as a resource.

Now to the new study. A unique variety has popped up very recently. This is the ONLY example I have ever seen with this stamp. It's tough to believe it is authentic when this variety has never been seen before.

☝️The only and major difference in this example is the stamp of George VI. These ingots have always featured Queen Victoria. The purity font and the two other smaller stamps are consistent with authentic examples. The most important comparison confirmation is the reverse side. These ingots tend to have sharper corners and edges. Typically, there is a small indentation on edges of the reverse side. Which this example also demonstrates.

☝️Here is a traditional Hong Kong Shanghai Specie Office silver ingot. You will notice a stamp of Queen Elizabeth. That is on ALL the authentic examples.

When comparing the two photos you can see how similar the shape of the ingots are. We have seen these two different font styles on the purity stamp.

This is going to be very interesting to compare in hand. I intend to use a digital caliper to take accurate measurements between the two varities. Of course, it will also be tested for 999.9 silver. I look forward to this study and intend to share it here on Steemit. Stay tuned..

That's a unique one. I haven't seen one like it until now. Do you have an idea what the price point for one of those is? I can imagine it being pricey, but just curious.

@themanwithnoname the 5oz Shanghai Specie Office silver ingots are selling right around $450-550 each. Depending on the quality of example.
