Positive Impact of Using Helmet for Safety for Bikers

Hi steemians all, lately at the hospital where I work most often get head injury patients from traffic accidents, especially bikers. So I'm interested in reviewing the use of helmets for bikers.
Helmet is a protective form used to protect the head from injury. Helmets are needed in certain activities to protect the head such as in sports, working in the construction section and in driving a motorcycle.

History

The use of helmets has been around since 900 BC which was used by the Assyrian army. They use helmets made of leather or thick bronze to protect the head from blunt objects or from swords and attack arrows in battle.
The use of helmets for bikers began with the incident of the death of World War I hero TE Lawrence (May 1935) better known as Lawrence of Arabia, he fell from a Brough Superior SS100 motorbike on the British road so he suffered head injuries and caused death.
He when driving only uses glasses and there is no helmet. His death was mourned by many people including Dr. Hugh Cairns who took care of him. Then Cairns was inspired to examine ways to protect the head for bikers in the event of an accident.

Helmet Evolution

• Early 1900s: Dr. Eric Gardener succeeded in designing modern helmets to help absorb and spread the power ridden by motorcycle riders.
• 1950s: Professor CR Lombard creates a new helmet that can reduce collisions. A number of helmet manufacturers adopted the design and the design is still used today.
• 1960s: Full face helmets were created, the design was considered safer in protecting the head of bikers.
• 1970s: Every helmet producer starts competing in designing valuable features in his product.
• 2010: Starting the digital era and helmets also come with electronic features.
  

Helmet Function

It is common knowledge that helmets are very beneficial for safety when driving a motorcycle. But there are lots of helmets out there on the market with various types of helmets, both low quality and high quality. So that the helmet used must meet several criteria in order to function properly. The functions of the helmet include:

• Protect the head from collision when an accident occurs.
• Protect the head from the rain and the sun.
• Protect the eyes from dirt, dust, wind or other objects
  

Effectiveness of the Use of Helmets for Bikers in Protecting the Head

According to the 2000 NHTSA (According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) study published by the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine in 2003, a 29% helmet is effective in preventing fatal head / brain injuries and 67% is effective in preventing head injuries / brains for bikers who are involved in traffic accidents.
In 2000, the helmet saved about 631 people in the United States and could save an additional 382 lives if the driver who was not helped had put on a helmet.
Head trauma can occur as a result of a collision, which can cause concussion or open skull cracks / ruptures, or blaring movements, such as rapid changes or sudden cessation. Even a mild head injury, where you don't lose consciousness, can cause permanent behavioral and cognitive problems, such as memory loss, inability to concentrate, sleep disturbances and, in some cases, permanent disability or death.
Research shows that wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of serious brain injury and death because most of the impact energy is absorbed by the helmet, not from your head and brain.

Conclusion

From the facts described above, it can be concluded that the use of helmets for bikers is very useful to protect the head from impact. Use a helmet that meets your safety criteria and be careful on the highway.
