Can cars really run on water?

in #steemstem6 years ago

Hello, my fellow steemian. I really appreciate your effort in reading my last post, upvoting and commenting.

I was ruminating on what to post when suddenly an idea occurred to me around 01:40 am today. I had to quietly shuffle out of the bed so as not to disturb my sleeping spouse. Actually, the idea was "Can cars really work on water?". So, I woke up my system, that is always on hibernation mode whenever it's not in use and logged in my Steemit account. I was now like this idea of mine about cars running on water can't probably be a new idea, I felt some Steemians too could have thought of writing on such.

So, I was forced to search through some past posts on Steemit and fortunately, I saw many posts of such. It was also somehow unfortunate (lol) because I was kinda un-motivated to surge on when I saw loads of great posts on the subject topic both old like a year old post of @realnews247 whereby he wrote that by using a litre of any type of water (even a cup of tea) is enough to power a car and also that of @greenrun that was written a couple of months ago. @greenrun on the other side talked about the growing risk of depleting the fossil fuel reserve, the pollution that's being released to the atmosphere and a better alternative in using water to power vehicles and the inefficiency of using water to fossil fuel.

I also saw some of the most recent posts on the topic, a good example is like that of @eurogee whereby he really took some time to give a more vivid explanation on fuel cells. From what I gained from the post is that truly cars can run on water but a whole lot of things have to be put in place such as changing from gasoline engine systems to that of electric fuel cells which is very similar to batteries. He also explained how fuel cells do operate so far as there is sufficient supply of hydrogen gas, It will keep producing electricity which is in turn used to power up the car. Water engines too have its disadvantages, some of which is the cost of running and maintaining it. Also, it isn't very efficient compared to gasoline and fuel engine.

However, despite all these challenges being faced with cars running on water, one Indian mechanic named Mohammed Raees Markani defied all odds. He is a 46-year-old mechanic from Madhya Pradesh, a state in central India having its capital in Bhopal. What makes it even more funny and interesting is that the man isn't literate like you and I. It's his passion that led to the invention. He has been working on the research for five years till he later made a scientific breakthrough. His type of car runs on the mixture of water and carbide to power its engine. When a calcium carbide is dissolved in water, an acetylene gas is given off.

Acetylene is a colourless and combustible gas which when mixed with air becomes highly explosive. The gas is mostly used as the fuel component in oxy-acetylene welding and metal cutting. A compound of Acetylene called acetylene black is majorly used in some dry-cell batteries.
So, it is this acetylene gas that Markani used to power his engine. He had to go through the stress of controlling and regulating the inflammable gas to his desired amount and then change the cylinder head and pistons of his prototype car.

The Advantages of engines that are gas powered compared to those that use fossil fuels

  • The gas-powered engines produce the same amount of power as compared to that of the gasoline-powered engine.

  • The price of cars that runs on water is relatively cheap compared to those of the traditional engine.

  • The eco-friendly cars also have a good range compared to the fossil fuel engines.

According to Markani, he said:

With just 25kg of water and 4kg of Calcium carbide, the car can run for up to 60 kilometres.

Furthermore, the mechanic, Markani has now patented his water car. He has been called by some Chinese investors to develop more on his idea.

Generally speaking, the market for eco-friendly cars is getting bigger and automobile companies around the world are looking for eco-friendly ways to reduce pollution.

However, Markani said:

A car like mine can be a good alternative. It costs close to nothing to operate and it is environmentally friendly."

Conclusion

Cars running on water is no longer a myth but a reality. The major concern facing those type of cars was their efficiency, high cost of buying and also being able to maintain as compared to gasoline engine cars. But those concerns have been eliminated by the Indian mechanic, Markani. His own type of car runs on the mixture of water and carbide, It is cheap and also as efficient as those gasoline used cars. I really hope the Chinese invest heavily in him so that he can produce many of such cars on a large scale.

Thanks for reading; I'll be looking forward to your comments.

Hello, I think we need those types of car here in Nigeria. Cars engine running on water and carbide, that eco-friendly one and nature will love it too. Well done @emperorhassy, this is a really good post

@steepup. Thanks, sir. How I wish our economy is buoyant enough to accommodate such type of cars.
