This post might not be of benefit to Steemians of developed country; countries with 24/7 electricity supply but Steemians of developing country like Nigeria, this will definitely come in handle.

First of all...

The two stroke engine was developed by Dugald Clerk; a scotman and modified by Joseph Day. It completes its cycle of operation in two strokes of the piston or 1 complete revolution of the crank shaft. You can visit my last post HERE to know more.

A Generator is a machine that can convert Mechanical energy to Electrical Energy.

This Two-stroke Generator is commonly known as "I BETTER PASS MY NEIGHBOR" amongst Nigerians.

In this post, I'm going to be listing some part, the problems associated with the part, the signal the Generator is going to give, the places to check and proper troubleshooting (Solution).

This post is suppose to be a video, showing me work on the Generator, but dues to circumstances beyond my control it came this way in this form.

Let's begin...

Before trying to put on any Generator set, there is one thing you MUCH have in mind;

Ensure there is Gasoline (Fuel) in the Tank

I. The Fuel Tap;

This is the device that has a direct contact with the Tank, it's used to regulate the fuel flow to the Carburetor. It's has a fine Filter at the inlet and within the tap to prevent dirt form entering the Carburetor.

* Problem.

This tap may clog after sometime because of the "impure" fuel we use to run the generator. When this is blocked, fuel won't get to the Carburetor and your Gen. won't start no matter how hard you try to ON it.

* Solution.
  • Loose it from the Tank.
  • Open up the tap, using your spanner.
  • Rinse in a clean Fuel or cleaning using "ABRO Carburetor Cleaner.
  • Then Couple and Start.

II. The Carburetor

This is the part of the Generator that is responsible for collecting the fuel from the Tank through the Tap and transferring it to the Combustion area ( the Engine Block). Although there are Hybrid Carburetor available now; but for 4 strokes engines.

* Problem

The Carburetor is like the Brian* of the Gen. if any Hole gets clogged, it restricts flow of fuel and the Gen. can't ON. If it's dirty it affect the Gen. performance, it cause fluctuation in the light and Generator.

* Solution.

This is quite sensitive, any misplacement of parts while servicing/cleaning will lead to purchase of a NEW carburetor.

  • Dismantle the Carburetor; but be VERY Careful.

  • After careful dismantle, use the ABRO Carburetor Cleaner to clean it.

  • Couple rightly and install back to the Gen.

III. The Exhaust

This part of the Gen. is essential. It reduces the Noise the Gen. produces and helps convey the combustion gases to the environment. These gases are harmful to the human health. It's the final stage in the Combustion cycle.

The Exhaust Gen. don't go bad or requires Service often. We know the these Small Gen. can be lubricated with the Fuel mixed with the proper amount of Oil. It's when the fuel is mixed with EXCESS oil, then it causes clog in the Exhaust.

* Problem

The exhaust hardly develop fault if the Fuel and Oil mixture is done properly. But when clog, it leads to LOW VOLTAGE when the Gen. is powered; no matter how you increase the "FIRE" of the Gen.

* Solution

When this clogging happens, it is advisable that you REPLACE the exhaust with a new one to save stress of scraping the sooth out. But if not, dismantle it and scrape off the sooth; if it's the detachable exhaust type.

This would be all for PART 1, expect more on my subsequent post; on how to Understand the Generator behavior and Know what to do and also Troubleshoot.

Njoku mg man, you have nailed it..now i can service my generator by my self ...may be we go open generator workshop hear o.lol ..
Anyway, ..nice post

Lol.... Operation Do it Yourself! Glad you like it.

quite educating @njokuoluchukwu. its quite frustrating that you can only find generators of this kind in africa alone, we are suppose to have gone past this stage

It's frustrating but I believe we will grow.
