Saturn 5 Rocket at NASA's Johnson Space Center

This is the rocket that carried astronauts to the moon. The size is all the more amazing when you see just how small the payload is. The photo is a bit misleading though. The gray command module is indeed quite small compared to the rocket; however, just behind the command module is the service module (the gray and white segment) that powered the command module back to Earth. Behind that (inside the white segment) is the Lunar Module.

We saw this as part of our behind the scenes tour of NASA's Johnson Space Center. If you missed the first three installments, you can find them below. I have several more installments to come.

I will be viewing the other installments and upvoting as well. What influenced your decision to take a NASA tour? I am quite surprised at the size of the rocket, I thought it would be bigger in diameter and shorter in length. Very interesting read. )

And it is crazy to see the difference in advancements for space exploration. I wish I had the money for the spend a day in space, but I am a long way away from that.

It looks really enourmous and am guessing it'd be able to contain a lot of people

I always wanted to see the real rocket! Lucky you! :)

To me it looks quite big! I think there are some stairs in the middle of the rocket? Can you go inside?
