Let's hope we are able to harness this power here on the earth, instead of ending up with a Dyson sphere to get the energy.

@valth, this is the first time of hearing of this thought experiment. But wouldn't that be wonderful if we are to somehow tap 1% of the Sun's output energy? That would be the day we will cry no more of energy as far as our consumption is as we have it.

Yep, that would be absolutely amazing. It seems like an impossible technology with what we have today though. But just imagine how much better everyone could have if it we were able to get even this 1 %!

Sure, it'd make for one less thing to worry about. Also a drastic reduction to pollution as a result of over dependence on fossil fuel, which if the rumours are true we have less than a century supply of natural gas, an estimate which some don't agree with. But whichever is accurate, having a chance to harness 1% of the Sun's total energy supply production will be very welcomed.

I think that even if those numbers end up not being true, if we still depend on natural gas in a century then we will be in a lot of trouble anyway. It's time for the world to move towards renewable, and I hope we hit it a lot sooner than in a hundred years!

In my country, even though we produce a lot of fossil fuel, the devastation in the immediate environment due to oil exploration may make a grown man cry.

Images such as this depict Bayelsa and Delta States, two of the many oil-rich states. You can click on each image for more details.

The people in this community are predominantly fishermen and farmers. Now the rivers are so polluted that no fish will survive there and the farmlands lie covered with oil.

Oh man, that's heartbreaking to watch!

The oil explorers really do not care.

Yes, you are right. I don't think enough attention is being paid to solar energy in the world today. I wonder what the constraints are though. That may form the basis for another post. Thanks a lot for your comments.

@churchboy, I think it may due to its seemingly high initial cost of deployment as against "cheaper" alternatives like fossil fuel, etc.
