Why are tardigrades not surviving "tun" state?

in #stemq5 years ago (edited)

On ResearchGate, I've found the following question:

Why are tardigrades not surviving "tun" state?
We're working with Tardigrades for a project and have to prepare them a certain way.
We have to be able to prove that before and after the project the tardigrades survived. Therefore, we want to get them in a tun state, and make sure we can revive them.
The current situation is that tardigrades, once dried, do shrink up and enter a tun state but once hydrated they only seem to be out of the tun state, yet they don't move anymore. Apparently it looks like they die once leaving the tun state.
Does anyone know a solution? Quite crucial...
Thanks.
