The Beast

The world is a noisy place. Full of bird songs and cricket serenations. Leaves rustle in the wind, frogs croak out their pride, people chatter happily - most of the time. Not now, not soon. Now, it's as if there was no such thing as sound. Nothing can be heard, as no one is listening. There may be sound, but who is there to hear it ?

The wind doesn't blow, as if it were afraid. The sky shrinks back - away away. The world is too big, but there are not enough places to hide. Every heart beats as one, every breath collective. No one can hear anything but their own beating heart. No one can think of anything aside from their own fear. No one can see anything - but it.

Leaves shake in fear without the breathing wind. The sky turns dark with swirling clouds and the whole world holds their breath. It is coming.

It steps out of the middle of the Earth, it's prision for all these years. Only the silent prison that held it captive for all these years knows what it was like when it was still free, and it will never tell the secret of how to contain it again. The people tuck away, the animals scurry beneath its feet, - away, away. Farther away is safer.

Yet no one, not even the smallest bug, can ever escape its mercy. It smiles as it feels the grass beneath its feet shrivel in fear, blacken a it's touch. It watches a bird fly above and laughs, laughs.

It's prison sentence is over, it's restless, hungry for its prey.
The Beast has arrived.
