Teen returns from cruise with mystery illness that left her blind

A Missouri teen is battling a mystery illness which left her permanently blind after returning from a cruise, according to reports.

Jordyn Walker, 15, said she has experienced bloody, swelling eyes and her health has rapidly deteriorated ever since a family trip last summer, news station WDAF reported.

After returning home from the cruise, she initially suffered from severe stomach pain, vomiting and bloody stools, according to WDAF. Reports didn’t indicate where Walker traveled on the cruise.

“It just went haywire from there,” said the Smithville teen. “Everything started swelling.”

Doctors diagnosed her with a sinus infection, but then she lost her sense of taste and smell.

Despite undergoing numerous tests, everything came back normal, according to the teen.

Nearly a year later, a medical episode landed her in the intensive care unit at the University of Kansas Hospital.

“My whole face just turned purple and bruised and giant with blood,” Jordyn told WDAF.

The incident left Jordyn permanently blind and required two surgeries to reduce swelling — but doctors were no closer to figuring out what was plaguing the teen.

“There’s no answers,” her mom, Kendyll Walker, told WDAF. “Nothing you can do.”

Her family is now speaking out in hopes specialists elsewhere may know what is causing the teen’s bizarre illness.

“Please spread the word,” the Walker family said on a GoFundMe page. “The human spirit burns brightest when we are united to solve a problem. We can’t imagine that her condition is so rare or so unique that it is beyond medical science in 2019.”
