A thousand cranes for peace

in #story6 years ago (edited)

This month, the launch of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima - Japan is remembered. This month we ask for peace in the world. The terrible event that left everyone shocked of the destructive capacity propelled by war. August 6th is an iconic day for the world community and it remembers us how the path of hate produces nothing but devastation.

That terrible date gave birth to a story and a tradition, of a little girl and her desire for the gods. It's the story of Sadako Sasaki who, exposed to radiation from the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, suffers ten years after of leukemia. As part of her desire to improve Sadako tests the legend of the thousand paper cranes, this tradition teaches that who makes a thousand cranes was granted longevity, health and their desires. With efforts and help, Sadako made 1400 paper cranes that were hanging on her hospital room, some say she never completed them and only reached 644 then were her classmates who finished them for her. Stories that say she was praying for her health but others say that she prayed for peace. Sadako died on October 25, 1955, was buried with 1000 cranes to accompany her on her trip in the afterlife. Now, every August 6th at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, cranes are placed next to the monument of children for peace made by infants from all parts to reaffirm the desire for that much longed tranquility and in honor to Sadako.

Today, I humbly made some paper cranes as an offering for Sadako and for peace, both for my country and for the world. Just looking at reality with the eyes of a child to realize what is really possible. I want to think that Sadako's cranes achieved the purpose, she rested from her fight and there was peace in Japan from that moment ahead. For more innocent hearts with fervent desires of miracles granted by a loving Heavenly Father, for peace in the world, for girls like Sadako.

If you share the wishes for peace I invite you to make a paper crane with your username written on the Wing and place a photograph of it as a comment in this publication.
