The Locket by Hope Huggs (Part 4) An Original Story
She scoped out the village from her vantage point and fast spotted the hub to be the pub. She could get cleaned up there and get a feel for where in the world she actually was.
Also, as it was first thing in the morning (relatively) she might find someone willing to give her a lift who wasn’t already staggering around pie-eyed as the moon.
Surreptitiously, she recovers her makeup from the bin earlier, as it might come in handy now after all…
She sneaks into the ladies in the pub without anyone batting an eyelid or taking a blind bit of notice, but a few minutes later she emerges and the whole pub takes note of her Jessica Rabbit demeanor.
All three occupants, all of them vying for the attention of the barmaid so they could be first to buy her a drink.
She takes a deep breath and sits at the bar next to them and puts on a French accent, as who could resist that?
“Pardon me, I am a little lost and need to to get to Londres, is it far away from this petit Ville?”
“It’s about a 2-hour drive from here, Jack here has a car I’m sure he can help you.” The reply was music to her ears.
“Jacques, I have no money, but it iz of the utmost importance I get there today, please will you help me?”
Jack stood up, put his arm around her waist and escorted her out towards his car.
Throughout the journey her heart was racing, would Jack be a gentleman, or like the man she was accustomed to?
Polite conversation was made and they got to the outskirts of London and Jack pulled over.
“This is as far as I can take you, without it being a nightmare for me to get home.”
She leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek…
“Thank you for helping a lady in need”
And she got out the car. He didn’t try and stop her. He was one of the good ones.
It didn’t take her long to get into the center of London and disappear into the hustle and bustle.
She sat on a bench on looked at the pictures in her locket.
“Not long now Holly and Flynn, my little darlings” she whispered.
