Fear Eats The Soul
She was a lonely widow who fell in love with a younger man of lower social status.
They made each other very happy. But there was a fly in the ointment.
Her two grown children did not want her to marry the man she loved.
So, for her children’s sake...she left him.
Time went on and as she grew older her children brought her a TV as a gift so she could keep herself occupied.
She hadn’t pursued her own happiness because she did not want to hurt her children’s feelings, or be excluded by her peers.
Yet at the end of the day – it turned out that they wouldn’t have minded her having a lover after all. But as she had missed that opportunity, a TV would have to do.
I remember watching that film like it was yesterday, it was so sad and touching.
It was also a painful reminder not to be discouraged by others who might not have your best intentions at heart.
I have met those types.
If I were to be able to talk to my younger self this is what I would say:
Follow your passions and dreams. Don’t listen to the naysayers, the critics, the fearful ones.
Go out there and be as brave and courageous as you goddamn please, bask in all that heaven allows if that is what is right for you.
And whatever you do - don’t be afraid.
Remember; fear eats the soul.
The film was 'All That Heaven Allows' with Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson. This went on to inspire Fassbinder's 'Fear Eats The Soul'
Touching, poignant and a highly topical theme. Worth noting that it was made in just about two weeks.
yes, that is a good advice. life is too short without using it wisely, to live happily what is meant for us is the best thing to do. other opinions maybe heard yet when it is opposed to what you feel that is good for you, choose the best for yourself...lesson learnt.
