The cat with boots

in #story6 years ago
Once upon a time there was an old miller who had three children. The miller had only three possessions to leave when he died: his mill, an ass and a cat. He was on his deathbed when he called his sons to share his inheritance.
  • "My children, I want to leave you what little I have before I die," he told them. The eldest son touched the mill, which was the family's livelihood. To the medium he left the donkey that was in charge of hauling the grain and transporting the flour, while the smaller one left him the cat that did nothing but hunt mice. That said, the father died..

The younger son was sad and unhappy with the inheritance he had received. - "I am the one who has left worse. What can this cat do for me?", - I thought out loud.

The cat that had listened to him decided to do everything in his power to help his new master. - "Do not worry, young master, if you give me a purse and a pair of boots we can go out to travel the world and see how much wealth we will get together".

The young man did not have much hope with the promises of the cat, but he had nothing to lose either. If he stayed in that house he would die of hunger or he would have to depend on his brothers, so he gave him what he asked for and they went to travel the world.

They walked and walked for days until they reached a distant kingdom. The jack-of-war had heard that the king of that country liked to eat partridges, but since they were so elusive they were almost impossible to get. While the young master rested under the shade of a tree, the cat opened its bag, scattered some grains that were left over it and hid to wait.

It had been stalking for a while when a group of partridges appeared, who found the grain and went into the bag one by one to eat it. When there were enough, the cat pulled the rope that was hidden, closing the bag and leaving the partridges trapped. Then he put the sack on his shoulder and went to the palace to give them to the king.

When he appeared before the king he said: - "My King, the Marquis of Carabás sends him this gift. (This was the name he came up with for his master). " The pleased king accepted that offer and asked him to thank his master. The days passed and the cat kept sending gifts to the king, always on behalf of his master.

One day the cat learned that the king was going to walk with his beautiful daughter near the river bank and had an idea. He said to his master: - "If you follow the flow you can make a fortune, just take off your clothes and get in the river". So did the miller's son until he heard his cat shouting: - "Help! Help! The Marquis of Carabás drowns! His clothes have been stolen! "..

The king attracted by the screams came to see what happened. When he saw that it was the Marquis who had sent him so many gifts, he wrapped him in delicate clothes and put him in his carriage to accompany them on the walk.

The astute cat went ahead of the royal party and went to the lands of a feared ogre, where some peasants were working. He threatened them by saying: - "When the king passes by and asks them who these lands are, they must answer that they belong to the Marquis of Carabás, but they will die."

In this way when the king crossed with his carriage and asked to whom those lands belonged, all the peasants answered: - "They are from Mr. Marqués de Carabás".

The jack-of-a-boot who was very pleased with his plan, then went to the ogre's castle, thinking of claiming it for his master. He had already heard everything the ogre could do and how much he liked to be flattered. So he announced himself to him on the pretext of having traveled there to pay his respects.

When he was alone with the ogre, the cat said: - "I have been told that it is capable of becoming any kind of animal, such as an elephant or a lion".

  • "It's true", - answered the ogre very flattered and transformed immediately into a roaring lion to prove it.

To which the cat replied: - "Surprising! It has been incredible! But I would be more impressed if you could transform into something as tiny as a mouse. That must be impossible, even for an ogre as powerful as you. "

The ogre, anxious to impress the cat, became a tiny mouse in a second, but as soon as he did, the cat jumped on him and swallowed it in one gulp.

This is how the cat claimed that palace and the surrounding lands for the newly appointed Marques de Carabás, his young master. There he received the king, who impressed by the luxury and majesty of the castle, immediately proposed the hand of his daughter in marriage. The miller's son accepted and after the king died he ruled those lands, next to the bootycat he named prime minister.
