Essays of Indonesia Reform Background - Story about legend.

The celebration is important for the 20 years of the Reformation in Indonesia. On May 21, 1998, the Soeharto regime stepped down after 32 years of the Soeharto regime took power in leading Indonesia.

Memories moment of the Reformation are certainly still well-inscribed. Economic chaos, ubiquitous demonstrations, looting events until the deaths of students and victims who have not been known until now.

Here are 3 novels whose story is set in the Reformation:

Pulang (Leila S Chudori)

The writer and journalist of Tempo wrote three great moments that happened in Indonesia and France. Namely the events of September 30, 1965, May 1968 in France, and May 1998 in Indonesia.

The story is narrated from the point of view of a student who eventually became a political exil named Dimas Suryo. He must undergo alienation conditions because of communist labels. Pulang reveals the journey Dimas Suryo leave his beloved homeland until the return when the New Order regime collapsed.

Laut Bercerita (Leila S Chudori)

Still written by the same author. The focus of Laut Bercerita was in an era before and when May 1998 occurred. Told from two points of view different figures, Laut Biru and Asmara Jati.

The siblings have different traits and characters. The one introvert, another extrovert. However, both have the same ritual. When Sunday afternoon, sit down to dinner with family while eating mother's cuisine.

Although her novel is fictitious, Leila writes it in accordance with the workings of journalists. She conducted interviews with various related sources to various scattered facts that try wrapped in the story line. Including an eyewitness conversation about someone throwing corpses into the sea around the Thousand Islands.

Saman and Larung (Ayu Utami)

Ayu Utami managed to write down this story with a ciamik dwilogi. Many mention 'Saman' and 'Larung' as literary works born because of the Reformation.

Saman (1998) became the debut of Ayu as a writer. This novel tells the story of four city women who are childhood friendly with a former Catholic priest who is now an activist, Saman. Saman was hunted by the military regime and the 4 womens helped her escape abroad.

Followed by 'Larung' (2001), Saman is already living in New York and working for Human Rights Watch. Saman also established an affair with one of the four women. Together with Yasmin and Larung, they want to save three students who will be arrested by the military regime. But Larung is an unexpected person, their mission becomes dangerous.

The two novels received awards and achievements in Indonesia and have been translated into various languages. Although dwilogi, Ayu often mentioned as one book.
