Menu yang banyak dipilih untuk sarapan ini disebut mi balap konon karena dibuat dengan cepat. Mi yang satu ini bisa ditemukan di berbagai lokasi di Medan, Sumatera Utara. Salah satu yang banyak diminati adalah warung mi balap di Jalan Wahidin, simpang Jalan Gajah.

Rata-rata pedagang berjualan dari pagi karena untuk menu sarapan. Sebagian berjualan hingga malam hari. Untuk mi balap Jalan Wahidin, buka mulai pukul 07.00, tapi siang hari seringkali sudah habis. Jadi lebih baik datang pagi hari.
