You will never fight the same battle twice

in #studynotebook5 years ago

All of us have accumulated experience in our lives so far. We tend to keep doing what has worked well in the past, and discard what didn’t. In more unfortunate situations, we even keep doing things that we know are bad for us, but that are so deeply ingrained into our natures that we feel compelled to repeat them over and over again.

The world is an amazingly complex mixture of events, people, relationships, objects, that are in constant flux. Each of the situations we will face will not be identical to the last. So we shouldn’t use the same strategies and tactics every time. We must strive to tailor our approach to the specific time and situation we find ourselves in, while being informed by our experiences and studies as well. But we should not apply something just because we know it.

The greatest strategists that ever lived all had an almost childlike sensibility to the present, they were able to fluidly adapt to the terrain, the weather, the troops, the supply lines, in order to try and deliver the best result for each situation.
