Well written @gloglo. In my opinion, no matter what anyone has achieved, if it is not improved upon, it can dwindle. No wonder it has been said that: "success is meant to be a continuum, and not a destination".
Believe me, the records that were once set few years ago in some fields are now considered as a mere starting point.
