3 Mobile Apps for Sustainable Business in 2018

in #sustainability6 years ago (edited)

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword to shout from your booth at TechCrunch Disrupt anymore. It’s a growing concern, and more companies than ever are shifting from simply sustaining their profit margins to sustaining the world. Corporate sustainability and environmental responsibility, or CSR, isn’t anything new. Industries around the world have been cutting back for more than two decades by going paperless, tracking their carbon footprints, and ramping up recycling. It may not seem like a paradigm shift, but in a world where we dump 2.12 billion tons of waste every year, every little bit counts.

Businesses needn’t take on the single-jar method made famous by Laura Singer to get a leg up on sustainability. Here are three mobile apps that are making waves in CSR by eliminating waste, recirculating resources, and trimming inefficiency.

1- Form.com (International)

“Paperless.” The term is practically a punchline in the modern workplace. Virtually every process is performed electronically now, so what’s the point of “going paperless” anymore? Well, when you consider that over 40% of solid waste in the US alone is made of paper products, it’s clear that simply recycling documents can’t reverse the damage. Much of that waste is wrapped up in inefficiencies like double-entry, lost paperwork, and antiquated processes.

That’s why Form.com’s offline-first mobile platform for inspections, audits, workflow, and task management keeps everything housed in a secure and self-hosted digital environment, cloud-hosted or kept on the premises. Not one tree will be sacrificed to fill out a report -- only for it to be entered incorrectly, scrapped, and inked-in again. They boast a powerful suite of tools for connecting and sharing data on their User Portal, and their platform includes tons of options for customizing the UX.

Form.com was founded in 2002 as a humble software company and quickly blossomed into a versatile, best-in-class data mobility provider. Over the years, they refined their app’s integration. Unlike a static, “out-of-the-box” solution, Form.com allows the client to choose which features they need. Their patrons include industry titans like mortgage loan company Fannie Mae and the quick-service restaurant Wendy’s, and they offer a free trial of their platform.

2 - Too Good To Go (United States, EU)

Ever wonder what happens to all that leftover or nearly-expired food at restaurants and grocery stores? Unfortunately, most restaurateurs have to haul their extra eats to a shelter if they want to make certain it doesn’t go to waste. Otherwise, they’re often forced to throw perfectly good food out.

Too Good To Go pairs hungry people with eateries and stores trying to unload their less-fresh (but still perfectly delicious) inventory. Consumers get food at deep discounts, and businesses get to make a little money on products that they couldn’t sell otherwise. Best of all, less food is wasted and more people are fed.

Too Good to Go began in 2016 with a simple mission to cut food waste and fill empty bellies. Since then they’ve expanded throughout the United States and 8 European countries with more users joining in all the time. Their app has received nearly universal praise and over a million installs on Google Play and the App Store.

3 - Rubicon Global (International)

Trash disposal and recycling can be a tiring game of chutes-and-ladders for many businesses. There are various fees, different hauling companies, different disposal locations, and so much more. Some operations might simply throw up their hands and go with whichever option comes with the least amount of fuss.

That’s why Rubicon Global chose not to build their own waste disposal sites. According to them, the problem is connecting enterprises with good waste management contracts. Instead, they manage competing bids from independent haulers across a huge network to get businesses bottom-dollar deals on waste and recycling.

A decade ago, high school friends Nate Morris and Marc Spiegel sought a way to disrupt the waste management industry and have since become a major force in the marketplace. Coined in the media as “Uber for Trash,” they’ve received nods from industrial magnates and national governments around the world, attracting investors like Leonardo DiCaprio and SalesForce CEO Marc Benioff. Rubicon Global’s mobile app launched in 2015 to very positive reviews, and they offer free trials.

A very useful list of apps that can help you run your business. But I don't understand why Fluix was not mentioned? When our construction company started working with Fluix - https://fluix.io/blog/managing-construction-submittals, many work processes were automated, and we were able to focus our employees' attention on more useful tasks. All in all, I think Fluix should take its well-deserved first place on this list.
