Lutheran church. Odessa

in #swmchallenge6 years ago

 Hi friends!

There are many religious institutions and communities in Odessa. The respectful attitude of the inhabitants of Odessa to any beliefs and customs left a significant mark on the cultural heritage of the city. We have temples, synagogues and mosques. Most of them are considered to be the real estate of southern Palmyra. One of such architectural monuments is the Lutheran Cathedral of St. Paul of The German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine.

Take a walk on the street Novoselskogo, Odessa. Under number 68 you will find an unusually beautiful architectural structure. This is the Church of St. Paul or the Church. During the student years, we often passed and admired this building, although it was not in the best shape. But for us, the Church was a kind of mystery, which she masterfully cherished. So Lutheran Church of St. Paul looks in our time. You can somewhat look inside the building.

On the top floor you can see the organ. Glorious evenings he gathers people to listen to music. But the monument of national importance was abandoned until 1997. Neo-Romanesque style of the building was gradually destroyed. It was very painful to watch. It's time for restoration. As you can see on the individual items from my archive of photos.

Franz Boffo in 1824 directed the project construction of the Lutheran Church. Everything turned out very bad. In the same year the bell tower and part of the built facade collapsed. Other architects began to work, and in 1827 the Church building was constructed. The style was classic, looked the Church is very modest.

The earthquake of 1838 did not bypass the Church. The building again required major repairs. Gothic and Romanesque style of the building was used by the German architect Hermann Shevrembrandt, the draft of which was recognized as the best in the competition. So reconstruction in 1895 became almost the construction of a completely new building. Under the leadership of H. Schweder construction was successfully completed, and the Church was consecrated.

Church height of almost 50 meters is visible even from the sea. Yes, and there is a Church at the highest point of southern Palmyra. The building itself resembles a large ship, the sails of which tend to the sky.

Now the Church building looks great. There are services, concerts of organ music. Tourists visit this place, which has a very interesting history.

Church in cloudy weather.

Despite two centuries of its tragic history, the Odessa Lutheran Church, St. Paul's continues to service and help the needy. And on Sundays, even gives organ concerts that anyone can enjoy. I would like to emphasize that such firmness and prosperity of the Church are conditioned not only by reliable brickwork of the building, but also by a close-knit community that values its cultural and spiritual wealth.
