What Sundays are made of
If I were to give a some examples of things that are typically British, my first would be our wonderful Sunday roast dinner and my second would be the traditional Pub. Both of these thing are cornerstones of our culture and without them Britain would be a much less green and pleasant place to live.
The Pub - AKA "The Public House" - is a place were British folk go to relax and shake off the working week. You can go there for a swift Pint or you can prop up the bar until the landlord/lady rings the bell for "last orders", the choice is yours.
Recently, due to inflation and the increased cost of living, Pubs have become more inclined to serve food to their thirsty customers. There was a time when a traditional pub lunch consisted of a packet of Pork Scratchings, washed down by a warm beer, but not any more... Pubs all across the UK have had to step-up their game and entice frugal folk to part with their wages, and it seems that there is always one meal that can always pry open a Brits wallet on any given Sunday.
Welcome to The Hardinge Arms
Unlike many of the Pub/restaurants around Britain, serving processed pre-cooked mush, The Hardinge Arms cooks all of it punters a homemade meal that will warm you from the hairs on your head right down to your pinky-toes.
The vegetables and cauliflower cheese are fresh, the meat is succulent, and the Yorkshire puddings could float you to heaven and back! Oops...I forgot to mention the parsnips and roast potatoes...Well, the words "crispy", "light" and "finger licking good!" all spring to mind.
And as you can see from the picture above, you aren't forced to wash this wonderful meal down with a pint of warm ale, as there is a great selection of fine wines to chose from. But, hey, some folk like an English beer with their meal and who am I to judge.
Just one more thing to do now.... Go find the dessert menu and pick yourself a pudding, homemade of course.
Under normal circumstances I would always choose the chocolatey option, but when it's homemade I'm a sucker for treacle sponge cake smothered in custard. My Girlfriend opted for her childhood favourite of Bread and butter pudding, also covered in lashings of custard.
Needless to say, both bowls were enjoyed to the last mouthful..."Mmmmm custard"...
And the price for this gorgeous meal is a very reasonable £27 for 2 people. If you're there on your own you can expect to pay £9 for the roast, £4.50 for the pudding and around £3-£5 for an alcoholic drink. Pretty good and especially when you consider how fresh the food is. I will certainly be recomending this place to family and friends and my girlfriend and I will definately by returning here.
Now it's time for me to partake in another Sunday tradition... Laying on the couch with a full tummy and falling asleep watching a cheesy movie.
It ain't a bad life here in Blighty...

Mmm, custard! And you get plenty of it! Some very nice puddings and the vegetables look delicious, I love cauliflower cheese 😍😍😍😍. This sounds a very nice place for Sunday lunch.
