Face Ban mian
Last night, I had a chance to go out and walk around my neighborhood as a way to increase my physical activities.
Which got me to thinking that I should have use actifit app to at least check on my activity count and be able to share to other actifiters out there. Anyway, maybe next time I will remember.
So after my walk, I passed-by this food centre at Tampines and I noticed that one of the stalls is my favorite Ban Mian noodle. Since I never had it for quite sometime now, I decided that it would be my dinner right away.
What is Ban Mian? It's a popular noodles dish here in Singapore and in many Asian countries like Malaysia and Taiwan. In it is egg noodle, minced pork, poached egg, chinese cabbage, shallots, dried anchovies, & the soy-based sauce. The dish is more on the savoury taste.
It's being cooked on the spot so while I wait for it, I had a pleasure to watch how it's done. So the cook start by boiling the broth and then every ingredients were added at a specific order; first is the minced pork, then noodles, egg, and last would be the vegetables.
I requested for the dry version and so she had to drain the soup out and into a separate bowl for me drink for later.
The noodle itself is quite tasty with the soy-based sauce and since it was cook perfectly, it's firm and springy. The cook really know the timing for each ingredient and so the meat is still tender and the vegetable is quite crunchy fresh.
The dish as a whole has a subtle flavor, which is what a standard Ban mian is meant to be. There is not heavy flavor to expect in this dish, it's actually more on the healthier kind of food.
The place is a typical food center that is quite common to Singapore, which is an open area with a roof and a lot of lights and ceiling fans to make the place vibrant and ventilated.
In this kind of places, the focus is more on the quality of food and the variety of cuisine that you can have. Cheers!
