Sounds like a good idea to cook your own if you don't have children along enjoy some wine and chat.
Travel teaches you to read menu's at doorways properly, we landed up in an expensive restaurant once placed an order for 4, they arrived with no vegetables, when querying, response was you should have ordered the vegetables at the same time as the meat. Never made that mistake again!

Ha ha, Yes that can often happen at European places. Often the main is really just the main dish, with sides needing to be ordered... Unless you don't mind just eating a slab of meat and nothing else!
