Honey balsamic green salad by French Baker
Yesterday, I met two town mates at the mall. After our dinner, one of them mentioned that she has friends who are also in the area. One of them arrived and invited us to join them at The French Baker.
I have dined in different branches of this restaurant a few times already and I had the impression that it is an international franchise. Now that I thought of Tasteem, I searched for it and realized that it is a local chain of restaurants founded by a Filipino.
The branch at the SM Mall of Asia (popularly known as MOA) is fairly spacious and cozy for fine dining.
There are also tables and chairs outside, along the hallway of the mall.

Our two new acquaintances have already placed orders when we got in. When the pizza was served, I thought it was all that they ordered. After few minutes, a plate of salad was also serve. I checked the receipt and it is called honey balsamic green salad.
It was a green salad with few leaves of lettuce, strips of carrots, onion rings, ripe mango cubes on top and a corn chip bar at the side.
I wondered about balsamic so I checked and realized it is vinegar. With honey? What a combination with ripe mango and fresh lettuce leaves! I tried and was surprised that it was good!
Then I remembered the receipt. P140.00 (US$ 2.69) for about three leaves of lettuce and few strips of the other ingredients. For us who are from the Cordilleras where vegetables are coming from, that is too pricey because we can have a kilogram of lettuce for such price. So what gives the high price? The balsamic? Well, it's the transformation of the lettuce to its presentation on the plate. And maybe yes, add the vinegar to it (I don't know). Either way, the salad is a good light meal if you want something green which is rare in most restaurants. And truth to be told, the plate was clean when we left. 😊
Maybe I will try that chicken salad croissant next time.

Sometimes you would never know what a restaurant has to offer until you get in and see what they got.
Yap, there is no chicken on it. The orange ingredient on top are ripe mango cubes. 😊
I think service, washing dishes and forks and accommodation is also involved.

Howdy macoolette! that chicken salad croissant looks like a winner to me. So the restaurant is local but the food is all French style like the name implies?
Yap, the restaurant is a local with French dishes in the menu. I read somewhere that the founder wanted to put such foreign bread beside our "pandesal" and localize the same. But truth to be told, it is not as localized as pandesal based on the pricing alone.
Yeah, the croissant looks good. Maybe I'll try that next time...
