Delicious and Famous Local Bakeries Cafe
Hi tasteem food lovers!
Today I would like to introduce a bakery cafe which is well known in East Malaysia called Fook Yuen Bakery & Cafe.

About Fook Yuen
Fook Yuen Bakery & Cafe is a self service cafe. It is different from most of the bread cafe in Malaysia. It considered as one of the hotspot for Yum-Cha (means coffee/tea break) in East Malaysia. It is one of the local Ko-Pi-Tiam (coffeeshop) which serves local style fast food especially their signature homemade breads.
The interior
I would describe this as a none air-conditioning upscale coffeehouse with such ambience and offers a nice respite from the tropical heat.
They started their first outlet in Damai Kota Kinabalu and now it has been expanded to few outlets in East Malaysia and today I would like to do a review from one of their branch in Labuan Malaysia.
Opening Hours: 7am to 5pm daily
The Menu
Fook Yuen Bakery & Cafe is a self service cafe. The first thing we reached there, we need to queue at the counter and order foods and beverages before we find a seat. The menus is at the wall behind the counter.

Beside their signature breads and buns, they also serves American breakfast and loyal delights such as nasi lemak (local fragrant coconut rice dish served with sambals).
My choice
Savouring their signature bread which is smooth and soft and I highly recommend the Roti Kahwin that is a must try!
My all time favorite - whole meal bread with coconut jam and margarine
White bread or whole meal, toasted or plain, the bread will still melt naturally in the mouth. Kaya (coconut jam) and margarine is the perfect combination for me. They both mixed which gives the bread name roti kahwin. The meaning of kahwin means a marriage but is between kaya and margarine. Haha!
Whenever you are in Malaysia, roti kahwin is commonly used and is a true delight of Malaysian breads.
I always loved their coffee because is bevy. The coffee scent is thick compare to other coffee shop. A separated sugar is available at all table for the coffee or tea. We can control the amount of sugar based on our own.

The Malaysia’s stall food are always available from breakfast till late lunch. ‘Economy’ foods is what we used to call.
The Bill
The price is reasonable with only cost at RM1.80 Malaysia Ringgit perset of toasted bread and a glass of coffee cost RM2.30 Malaysia Ringgit.
The bill that I paid for 3 persons. All of us having the same whole meal breads with kaya and margarine plus 3 glasses of hot coffee
This is a nice place for chit chat, relax and gossiping too. You can sit as long as you want as long as the foods and drinks are served.
They are ‘halal’ cafe which means they are allowed to be eaten any of their foods that they served under the Islamic Sharia law.
