My Takeaway - Koa Chung

Yesterday the Chinese people celebrated Koa Chung day in Sabah. Its not really a big thing here, but still here and there you can still find Koa Chung served in restaurant or at home.

Since its Koa Chung day, I went to this Chinese Coffee Shop to buy some. Like many traditional Chinese dishes, these rice dumplings are rooted in a significant moment from ancient China.

Please correct me if I got it wrong, according to what I read in the internet, a popular belief amongst the Chinese is that eating this food during Dragon Boat Festival commemorate the attempt at rescuing Qu Yuan (a famous Chinese poet from the kingdom of Chu) from the river. It is said that the local people began the tradition of throwing sacrificial cooked rice into the river for Qu Yuan. Others believed that the rice would prevent the fishes in the river from eating Qu Yuan's body.

Now, here is my Koa Chung takeaway. Its one of my fav. Its made of glutinous rice stuffed with pork and soya beans fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. This delicious rice priced RM2.00 (USD0.48) each.
