Australian - US Brotherhood was born in 93minutes of blood

On July 4 1918, the Americans and Australian troops fought together for the first time in history at the Battle of La Hamel.

In an excerpt from the Australian War Memorial :

On 4 July, operations by the Australian Corps against Hamel and surrounding areas were launched. For the first time in the war, American troops acted as part of an offensive. Four companies were sent as attachments to the Australians, in an effort to give the Americans some first-hand battle experience.

But this 93 minutes formed a bond between America and Australia that has endured the last 100years. Critics claim that Australia follows the US blindly into every dumb conflict they push the world into, but this is a measure of brotherhood. The Australians baptised the Yanks in the blood of war, and as Australians we have a culture of mateship.

When one of your mates plans on doing something stupid, if you can't talk him out of it, you know your going to be right next to him do the stupid stuff with them.

Its with these values, the American and Australian brotherhood will continue. It was born in blood and will most likely die in blood as well.
