Hand Carved Bowl

Yesterday was May Day in Queensland, so that meant a day off and incredibly I got to spend a bit of time during the day up in the shed playing with my new Arbortech toys.

So I had a piece of warped featherback Jacaranda sitting around that was no good for a cutting board as it was just too warped. So i scribbled a few lines on it to get a shape, then began hacking into it with the new Ball gouge.

Boy that thing was able to remove some material. It tool a bit of getting used to as its basically a spinning ball of death designed to eat wood, clothes and fingers.

But in the end, it came out fairly nice, a bit of sanding to smooth some of the really rough parts out, but left in a fair bit of the texture as its not meant to be a show piece, it was just a bit of fun.

Now the missues wants a bigger one, possibly something a bit more of a triangle to fit in the corner of the bench. I'll try and get some video of that one.

Fantastic work. I envy people with a talent for wood work.
A spinning ball of death, that is a pretty apt description.

Oh nice, you did get time to make something with it.
I'd imagine it would be heaps easier with the bowl in a vice , But that spinning "Ball of Death"looks fun!
lol oops, wrote bowel in a vice. that wouldn't be very pleasant.

That 'ball of death' is sure handy looking. But I can see you'd want to be pretty focused using that thing.

Nice work. I have tried a basic arbortech blade but I would like a more advanced one. You have shown it certainly does the job.
Thanks
