Some truth regarding Adani in Australia

Almost everyone in Australia, or at least on the East Coast of australia would be aware of the Adani Mega Mine that has been approved for Central Queensland as well as the vitrolic hate that is spewed around it.

One of the biggest concerns is that of water and its usage and management. Now this is something I'm intimately involved with and I can tell you that a coal mine used bugger all water compared to a sure cane farm or other primary produce. But below is some information that was forwarded to me by Adani today to dispell some of the myths regarding its percieved impact on water assets.

Adani can only pump water from the Suttor River when it is flooding and after farmers take what they need.
Adani will store the water in a dam and use it as it is needed. This water licence from the Queensland Government requires Adani to
pay at the same rate as other industrial users.

The Doongmabulla Springs are located more than 8km from the mining lease and 11 km from any mine activities.
Adani must monitor and report to the government about the level of water in the springs. To protect the springs and its local species the water level at the springs cannot drop lower than 20cm.

**Adani will not take water from the Great Artesian Basin. Safeguards have been put in place in case there is seepage from the Great Artesian Basin to the mine. **
This potential seepage is predicted to peak at 730 mega litres per year in the later years of mine life at full production. To offset this Adani must cap free-flowing Great Arestian Basin bores on properties in the region, at the rate of 730ML/year for the first five years.

This mine is certainly very controversial, but the rhetoric is being driven primarily by left wing activist groups. The truth and facts generally don't get a look in with these groups.

Beware of the truth you are being fed as it is most likely being influenced by the tellers own person objectives.

I was more worried about the amount of money our government was chipping in to get this mine up and running. And the blatant lies about the amount of jobs this mine would create.

It seemed as if the government was willing to push this mine through despite the findings of the various studies conducted.

The government hasn't pitched in all that much money now. There was big promises, but not much ever really came of it.

Just like the railway, that got scaled back dramatically.

The thing that most people does realise is that once this mine kicks off, there are half a dozen other mines in the same basin that will then also start on the back of this one. So its actually a huge problem for the economy if this mine wasn't to be approved.

It is pretty frustrating that any taxpayer money is put into something that needs to be dug up instead of grabbing all the free sunlight that QLD is famous for.

They would be better off investing in battery technology. Every household given a large battery to store their power to make solar actually reliable.
I'm not anti-renewable, but I am completely 100% pro-reliable. Solar and wind just isn't reliable enough yet. Coal is not going to be going anywhere for a long time.

Oh. I'm not an engineer, so I'm not sure of the specifics. What is making solar unreliable? I thought the actual disc things where durable enough to last 100 years, and there wasn't much in the way of moving parts, so not a lot can go wrong. Is it the batteries that are unreliable?

Thanks for the extra info.

We can't afford to have these projects not go ahead. We're in a lot of trouble economy wise and I don't want to see what Bill Shorten will do to Australia if we have an economic crisis... I'm sure it will involve borrowing to fund a stimulus package. The stimulus package will probably involve in the government investing in injecting rooms, green spaces and other non-productive social programs to satisfy the far left within his own party and the Greens.
