Strawberry Picking

IMG_4421.JPG

With the saga of sewing needles being placed in strawberries, the entire local community rallied and went out on Saturday to pick strawberries.
I live right next to the farm that the first needle came from, so we know how big an industry the Strawberries farms are.

The farm put on an event over the weekend to go pick your own berries. $10 for a full box. So 6:30 saturday morning we rocked up at the farm to get picking.

I'm glad we got there early, we were actually the first people there. Within an hour there was easily 50 cars, and by lunchtime there was easily 200 cars in the car park. And this amount of people didn't subside for the entire 2 days.

The kids loved munching on the berries as we picked. I think they may have eaten nearly as many as we picked. Its times like these that I'm glad their are toilet trained, as I'm sure they had an upset gut afterwards.

All in all, a fun morning, the kids loved picking them and have been eating them for days. We still have tonnes left over and they are starting to go bad. I've made some compote to go with yoghurts and the Mother in Law is making jams. I've got a bunch in the freezer as well to make more compote in a few weeks time.

Good to support the strawberry farmers

Excelente imagenes!!!!!! Y GRAN COSECHA....

Ours did something similar, not sure if there are strawberry farms around here but people probably would have done the same thing if there are. The PCYC we had states at were selling containers of diced strawberries and cream advertised with a poster saying something like "them cut them up don't cut them out".

Fresh picked is best though!
