Daily Thoughts #48: Finding My Right Focuses

in #teammalaysia6 years ago

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by a lot of things to do?

It is definitely a YES for me. I tend to have a lot of ideas and thoughts beaming across my mind. Every piece of ideas always looks exciting and enticing to me which drives me wanting to realize it. However, it is impossible for me to do everything without having a proper planning and sufficient time commitment.

An idea will stay as an idea if it has no proper execution plan. Even with a lot of research done on paper and producing a detailed business proposal, without a real execution, it is still an idea. This is what I learned from the sharks of Shark Tank series. To be a real entrepreneur, I must have the courage to carry out my own plan and make different mistakes until I make it. There is never a one-shot success idea which doesn’t require any try and error. Most of the time, we will never know the real outcome until we execute it. Albeit, anticipation still plays an important role to understand the different outcome and risk for our action.

So what I am going to do about it?

This marketing statement by Nike is something very motivating and inspiring. Without doing something, we will never know how things will turn out. It may be better than we expected or worse than we can ever imagine. Nonetheless, we shall take the outcome with an open heart and find ways to improve the situation. In my experience, I have a lot of moments that my guts told me to do it but, in the end, I was holding back by overthinking the consequences. This turns out to be some regretful moments for myself and I started to reflect on it.

In order to avoid such regretful moments, I try to say ‘yes’ to most of the challenge and try to be as proactive as possible to commit something. To be frank, it is not as easy as it seems as I am still haunted by my own ‘negative’ imagination. Nonetheless, I find myself gain a lot after a few bold attempts to speak out and volunteering to commit for some cause.

Just saying yes is sufficient?

On the contrary, frequently saying yes can be a double edge sword as well. As this will lead me to lose focus and end up with nothing done. I could say it is like an overpromising situation and overconfident about my capability to deliver things that I thought I could accomplish with ease. After realizing that, I learned how to say no to things that may not compliment to the things that I have in mind. With that being said, I have to set priority on what I want to focus and say no to the things that are not complimenting the main focus components.

From Pick Three by Randi Zuckerberg, she also highlighted that in our daily life, focusing on accomplishing 3 things is a good benchmark. By choosing between work, sleep, family, friends and workout, set priority for these 5 components and focus on completing the top 3. Every day can have a different priority set for the 5 components and this will make our life more balance. I do feel that this concept is very suitable for me whereby I could set my mind clear on what I want and just do it. Knowing that none of the 5 components will be neglected as I have a proper planning to balance between all of them, I am able to lead a productive work-life balance.

Wah, such compliment. Thanks @happycrazyon! Hope it helps others as well.

Hmmm... that's a good suggestion. There's just too many things to do these days... we really need to focus.

Ya, shutting down the noise and stay focus is one great skill.

After realizing that, I learned how to say no to things that may not compliment to the things that I have in mind

(we already ran out of money; how about another six month on that

Dont get you.

Growing older definitely shifted my focus on what truly matters in life. Prioritizing, and reprioritizing. You will do just fine!

Always pick out a certain ratio of ideas and thoughts to say yes to and you can see yourself doing a lot more good in your life.

True, pick out a few (maybe 3) and focus on them.

This is a really good piece of advice. Try and accomplish 3 things per day and you'll feel accomplished :)

Yup, it is. Even it is a small thing.

thank you for sharing! i hope you're able to achieve everything you want with this attitude :)

Thanks, hope to spread this concept to others as well :)

I can absolutely related to this... I always wish I could stretch time... so much to do, so little time. So that piece of advice on Pick 3 sounds like a plan. Thank you for sharing @kimzwarch 😊

Yup, it is. Rather than greedily wanting to do everything, we can only focus on a few in reality.

Well written post @kimzwarch, hope it helps to smoothen your busy life.

Thanks @roselifecoach :) Same goes to you!
