TIPS TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT BRANCH OF ENGINEERING

in #technology6 years ago (edited)

The two most prominent questions bewildering parents & engineering aspirant these days before proceeding to the university to study engineering is which type of engineering should I consider? Engineering is a broad course, with so many branches to choose from, most times it can be troublesome to limit down which is right for you to choose from. To help you decide, you should try and identify which one you are enthusiastic about. What gets you energized. And what do you spend your free time on? All types of engineering incorpoarate some form of problem-solving and aims at making life easy, but what engineering –related solution gives you the most buzz? If you select a course you are interested in, you will discover that it is easier to remain propelled and stay motivated during your course of study and also stay involved with the subjects while seeking after an engineering career.

Here is a rundown of the different branches of engineering, to help you decide which one is best for you

  1. CIVIL ENGINEERING: civil engineering is number one on the list and it happens to be my course of study too. Civil engineering is the professional practice of designing and creating infrastructure projects. This can be on a gigantic scale, such as the development of nationwide transport system or water supply project, or on a little scale, such as the development of single roads network or buildings
this branch of engineering is for you if:
    a. You are interested in planning and building things
    b. You are interested in mechanics, hydrodynamics, geotechnics and geology, material science and measurable analysis.
    c. You’d like to create your plan abilities, especially in computer-aided design.

CIVIL ENGINEERING SPECIALIZATION
Common specialization of civil engineering includes highway engineering, structural engineering, water resource engineering, transportation engineering, environmental engineering and hydraulic engineering

  1. ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING: Electrical and Electronics also known as elect/elect engineering, both center on the application of electrical control power. The two fields vary in that electrical engineers mainly focus on the large-scale generation and supply of electrical power, while electronics engineers focus on a much littler electronic circuit, such as those used in computers
This type of engineering is for you if:
    a. You are interested in how electrical gadgets and frameworks work.
    b. You want to render your knowledge in powering the next phase of technology development.
    c. You normally want to know how electrical system is set up and have thought for how it could be improved.
    Electrical engineering area of specialization:
You could specialize in the following areas of electrical and electronics engineering: Power and generation and supply, communication and media, computer systems and robotic systems.

  2. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest types of engineering, mechanical engineering is concerned with the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.and also involves the study statics and dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, stress analysis, mechanical design and engineering drawing.
    This type of engineering is for you iF;
    a. You like fiddling with mechanical
    b. You are interested in coming up with new and innovative designs in fields such as sustainable energy and artificial intelligence.
    c. You’re interested in working as part of an interdisciplinary team to develop and improve mechanical technologies.

Mechanical engineering specializations
This is a very broad subject, which overlaps with lots of other types of engineering. However, the most common specializations of mechanical engineering include manufacturing, transportation systems, combustion, nanotechnology, and robotics. Mechatronics engineering may also be of interest; this combines mechanical and electronic engineering with areas such as computer and control engineering.
