WhatsApp CEO, Jan Koum confirmed his departure from WhatsApp on Monday on his Facebook page. The Washington post reported that Koum also plans to resign from his company's parent, Facebook's board of directors. Koum didn’t elaborate the reasons. He said he wanted spend more time “collecting rare air-cooled Porsches and playing ultimate frisbee.” But it's implied that he can't support the business strategey of facebook. Recently Facebook's business strategy has been subjected to question. The issue take in place with the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

On a question answer session with US Senetors, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of facebook has confessed that Facebook collects personal inforamation to sell ads based on people's interest. On the contrary WhatsApp runs no ads. WhatsApp also uses encryption technology that makes messages indecipherable to everyone but the sender and recipient. In a nutshell, WhatsApp protects personal data in all means.

Koum also signaled years ago that he would take a stand against Facebook if the company’s push to increase its profits demanded radical changes in the way WhatsApp operates. In a blog post written when Facebook announced the biggest acquisition in its history, Koum wrote that the deal wouldn’t have happened if WhatsApp “had to compromise on the core principles that will always define our company, our vision and our product.”

So, it's assumed that the root cause of his departure is his stand against the violation of private data by his company's parent, Facebook.
