Actually, it's between 6-8months, but there are many things to consider; food supply for the crew members (what if they run out of food supply?), and other harsh conditions, etc. But putting them intermittently in cryostasis would lower their metabolism rate, and hence they would pass through some period in a sleep-like state.

Yeah I guess if there are a lot of crew on board it makes sense to freeze them. But if there are only a few it seems more efficient to have a space vegetable garden. The advance with space gardening seem to greater than in suspended animation -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plants_in_space
