Hardware Issue In 13-Inch MacBook Pro Without Touch Bar Revealed By Internal Apple Memo

Apple is not enjoying much about MacBook Pro hardware reliability right now and looks set to continue after the company has identified a limited hardware problem affecting the latest 13-inch MacBook Pro 2017 models with the function keys (without Touch Bar).

The news comes through an internal reminder that has been distributed to Apple stores and Apple authorized service providers in the last week.

In particular, the memo notes that the logic board or solid state drive of the MacBook Pro may not work properly and that both hardware components need to be replaced at the same time as the warranty. The note does not go into detail on why this is happening, especially because both sides seem to need to be replaced simultaneously, nor does it say what percentage of the machines will be affected by this new problem.
MacRumors has been able to get its hands on the memo of what it describes as a reliable source, and it is daunting for anyone who is already worried about the current alignment of Apple notebooks.

Apple has recognize a specific population were macbook pro (2017, 13 inches, two Thunderbolt 3 ports) that require solid state drives and the main logic board to be replaced when someone has a functional failure.

It will show a message when the SSD or part number of the main logic board is added to repair an identified MacBook Pro system. The message will indicate that SSD and MLB must be replaced when one of the two components has a functional error.

Apple is indicating a response time of between five and seven days for work, which will be covered as a free repair within Apple's one-year limited warranty or via an extended AppleCare + plan.

Anyone with a device that believes they have these problems should make an appointment to visit their local Apple Store or Apple authorized service provider.
