DRONES - MORE THAN JUST POLICE SURVEILLANCE AND TOYS
This is going to help a lot.
A few of us are all working on our properties at the same time, including @papa-pepper & @mama-pepper, @bluerthangreen & @allforthegood, and @jaguarlife and @ladyjag. So far, @jaguarlife and @ladyjag are in the lead, but it’s not a race anyway.
Since we are all progressing on our land simultaneously, some steps or stages of development can be done at the same time. We weren’t sure if we were going to completely off grid or not, but decided to get hooked up to electricity for a few reasons. Since @jaguarlife will be getting his electricity at the same time that we get ours, we will be running the lines at the same time to hook up both properties.
THE DRONE
To plan where the lines should go and to measure how far apart the poles would be, @jaguarlife just brought over his drone. Rather than fighting our way through thick underbrush with a tape measure to get measurements and try to figure things out, he just flew his drone around overhead.
Since it is hooked up to GPS, he was able to accurately measure distances and get a bird’s eye view of our properties. Not having a drone myself, it was amazing for me to be able to watch the footage live on his phone.
When we have an opportunity later, I’ll try to have his drone record a video tour of my property to show all of you. For now, I’m just appreciating being able to work on my homestead in this day and age, where we have such tools available to us.

That is awesome!! This is a prime example of how technology REALLY DOES make our lives easier....
On the flip side....sorry to be a party pooper..... But if you value some privacy as to your exact homestead location....You may not want to post that flyover video. It can be used with google maps to find your exact location. Facial recognition software or not.... A few key landmarks and some diligent searching A N D...BAZINGA!!

We will get there just waiting right now to see what the full damage is gonna be. The septic system is less than we expected but not as good as we were hoping for, but tight deadlines mean they are gonna try to fleece ya. If we had the time and energy (meaning if we were not so old) we might do more of the work ourselves. I can't believe that we are gonna go from an empty lot to a home on our land in 45 days it seems unreal to me, but it is gonna happen and hopefully on time and under budget, and we have unground electric access on the easement so we don't have any poles to drop.
I'll be running underground from the poles to the house, to keep the box on the pole and the outskirts of the property. I'll know the septic price on Monday!
I hope you get off cheaper than we are. We are in the middle range of what they can cost. $14,200.00 is what it is gonna cost for ours. I am like ouch, but some of the other bids were higher. Sometimes I think it would have been easier to just have bought a house already built, but I love that piece of land, like I am seriously in love with that piece of land we bought and the location of the woods backing into a nature preserve to the north and to the State park to the east, and all the wild life it will bring, is my dream. I can't wait to sit out back with my camera on the tripod waiting for all the creatures to make an appearance, sadly I didn't have my camera ready today when we were out there as two huge deer showed themselves.
