Future Technologies That We Would Today Consider Magic (Part II)

In my post from yesterday, which you can check out here, I talked about some of the futuristic technologies that we might think are magic if they were to be unveiled today.

The post was inspired from a video that I watched of a renowned physicist, Michio Kaku. Well, there are many such technologies that will become as common as smartphones in the future, which are completely in the realm of sci-fi right now.

So, let me go ahead and talk about these today. Do tell me in the comments section down below if you want to read about some particular technologies of the future.

Robotics

There was a time when having a phone was considered a status symbol. And now literally everyone has, not just a phone, but a smartphone. Same will be the case with robotics.

Right now robots can be found mainly in the industrial sector but if recent advancements are any clue, we will soon see them branch out into new areas and in the more distant future, they will be as common as cars.

Michio Kaku stated that one day, the robotics industry will become larger than automobile industry, as everyone will have one just like a car or a smartphone. They will help us in the office, industries, homes, space and anywhere you can imagine and for anything you can imagine.

With time, they will begin looking similar to us and one day, might even become self aware as more and more will be equipped with state of the art AI in the future. How that will play out, remains to be seen.

Colonisation of Mars

I can’t wait for humanity to become a space faring civilisation, not because there is something wrong with the Earth or something, but it satisfies our very nature of curiosity.

We will soon begin expanding our presence to other planets and moons and start permanent and self sustaining colonies which will ensure our survival, in case of an extinction level event on the Earth.

We first have our eyes on the Moon and Mars where plans to establish colonies are in full swing. The first humans are supposed to land by 2030 on Mars, which will kickstart a new era for humanity.

By 2100, first signs of cities will begin to show up, and if we are successful at terraforming Mars, we might even make it a new home for us, forever. Here’s hoping.

Energy Revolution

If there is one sector that needs a huge revolution, it is the energy sector. Our energy sources have remained largely unchanged ever since we began using fossil fuels, the effects of which we all know about.

There have been many developments in this field recently however, and soon we might begin noticing change on an unprecedented level. Solar power will one day become cheaper than fossil fuels and could be the default source of power for the mainstream user.

We might finally crack fusion power as well in the future, which will provide unlimited clean power for all of humanity, finally transitioning us away from fossil fuels for good.

Also, battery technology which has remained unchanged for years will see dramatic improvements and will be able to hold charge for weeks on end. This will in turn revolutionise the consumer electronics sector as well.

Supersonic Travel

The most common mode of transportation today are cars, planes, trains or ships. While it might take another century or two to do away with these completely, we are going to see major changes in this sector as well.

Cars and other vehicles are all going to transition to being self driven. This is essentially going to turn all our vehicles into robots of sorts. Then we are going to see Hyperloop like technologies begin to render railways obsolete over the next century.

The flight times which have remained mostly unchanged (frustratingly) will be drastically shorter thanks to supersonic commercial flights which would travel faster than the speed of sound without the sonic boom. NASA is looking into this seriously.

Then for more distant travels, we might begin using rocket technology if Elon Musk has his way of using the BFR rockets which he claims will make any destination within 30 minutes of your reach. The future sure looks interesting!!

Sort:

I think trips to space will become more of a thing in the not to distant future, if there is money to be made it is inevetable .

Yeah, I think so too. Space tourism will definitely be one of the largest industries in the distant future.

Ill go to space and pay in steem power

I hope the aliens accept SP as payment ;)

Of coarse they will 😂

Today we can say something happens early on will come is a mystery, just as when we first say impossible transcontinental could speak with a handful of phones, but now it's a reality, along with the advancement of technology the next few years we can never be sure what will happen, because the days of growing human sciences diplanet Earth

We live in a crazy word where people still believe in magic. I think what ancient civilization before meant with magic is just science. We just need to open our mind to all possibilities and believe that there is no "IMPOSSIBLE".

That's so true :)

There are many ways to develope our energy sector, space exploration program or to turn our concrete cities into a green, friendly and (again) peaceful areas. The question is: how much time do we have? First: we don't know what will happen with Sun in few years - solar winds or coronal mass exjections could cause irreversible damages to our IT and energetic systems.
Second: some people take benefits from making cities more and more crowded, polluted and "greenless".
I think that we need to change our way of thinking if we want to make a progress in any of field of knowledge you've mentioned. Time is running out...

I agree with you that "profit making" seems to come in the way of a lot of these efforts and that we would need to change our thinking to make these a reality. Or there would be no Earth left to make these profits.

what's wrong with fossil fuels?
yeah...you're gonna say CO2 emissions as that's a bad thing...it's not.

Lots of things are bad about fossil fuels. But I know you would disagree there. So, let's just agree to disagree :)

I always disagree with what is wrong.
Thank you for acknowledging that you are.

The technology is fast evolving and we're not sure right now if it's going to lead us to a peaceful or scary future. It might happen that the "magic" of now which is fantasy to many can become "reality" in the future which could be a normal daily thing. We should beware of where we're heading with technology ^_^

Technology is always a double edged sword and depends on the user. I hope we can use it for good.

Nice post like always.. Technology has progressed so rapidly in the past 100 years that practically anything we take for granted today can be seen as magical to someobdy who lived a couple of hundred years ago.. I believe cryogenics, biotech and nano technology are two other areas that might make some rapid strides in the years ahead... in fact I really wont be suprised even if we see humans with so much embedded biotech that 'cyborgs' would be commonplace..

Yeah it works both ways. Technology of today would seem like magic to people of the past. I also agree that cryogenics, biotech and nanotechnology are just going to explode in the coming years. The future sure is exciting :)

Fusion reactors are THE THING we need to revolutionize our energy production. Basically a fusion reactor will be a mini-sun. What else would we need then?

Yes, 100% If that becomes a reality, then we wouldn't need anything else. I hope it does one day! It seems like we get closer every year.
