According to Jason Dorrier at Singularity Hub: BTC ETH and STEEM could be trillion dollar market(s)

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

Here's a list of 7 disruptive technologies in order of magnitude. Any of these little beauties could be worth a trillion or more dollars. These are hot technologies which are exploding right now. Most of these technologies are; either already huge industries or they are booming (AI) or just before the early adoption phase (Driverless Vehicles).

Please feel free to skip to the end and read the linked article from Singularity Hub.

#1.) Deep Learning

Deep learning might surprise some people as being the #1 growth market predicted. How is this possible?! Well Deep Learning in this case can be seen as an enabling technology. Humans and intelligence are increasingly being uncoupled, highlighted by the fact that your phone is "smart". As the cost of intelligence goes down, new services and products become viable such as Driverless Vehicles.

If steemit.com is a big flaky crispy bread bowl full of cheese, Deep Learning is like your silverware, napkin and utensils. Facebook has made alot of its money by simply collecting, annotating, compiling and referencing massive datasets. Those datasets are the "lessons" so to speak we use to train a Deep Learning AI. So the fact that rational actors on the Steemit platform by definition must be VERY different from the rational actors on a primarily stakeless network - makes the study of us $$$$$$ money.

#2.) Driverless Vehicles

Siiiiiick. I will definitely be naming mine Winston in reference to Batman.

But seriously as demand for standardized sensors, computation and components has increased effects of economics-at-scale kick in. As costs and prices for sensors computation and components fall, heres is the counter balance. A product-at-scale that needs between 1-12 of each and every high tech sensor lidar mems radar and more. Lots of companies in these industries that specialize in components that are becoming ubiquitous. $$$$

#3.) 3D Printing

3D printing has been suffering from serious design constraints for awhile. The community has kind of suffered from overhype. It's like Bitcoin back when it first hit $100 and quickly blasted off to $1200.

There are several companies out there who are either redefining what it means to 3D print : like printing houses for example, or 3D printing in space; and then there are companies who are trying to break some limiting factor or design constraint. There will be enabling breakthroughs coming here and ONCE they happen theres really no telling when or how fast this tech will blow up. $$$$$

#4.) CRISPR

From the article: "“You can see if a company in this space has a strong IP position, as Genentech did in 1980, then the growth rates can be enormous,”

If you are not familiar with CRISPR its a methodology of genetic engineering that is relatively new, extremely inexpensive, highly accurate and very easy to use. We will see replicator speed 3D printing but that won't be until long long long after we have desktop prosumer genetic engineering.

#5.) Mobile Transactions

WTF mobile transactions huh?

#6.) Robotics and Automation

Seriously we need basic income STAT. M2M machine to machine economy where the actuator designer, the visual systems programmer and the smart contract developer get together and collaborate : they produce some useful robot that can then go on about its business indefinitely, without ownership doing its intended job, earning money for repairs, paying its taxes (to basic income of course) and creators. Creators don't HAVE to make benevolent, civic, tax paying robots but they could. If the robot isn't perceived as benevolent though ... who knows how long its life cycle will be?

#7.) Cryptoassets

Boooooooooyakasha heres where Jason Dorrier name drops Steem. What a guy he mentions Bitcoin, Ethereum and Steem.

Another technology: Thorium Reactors
Another crazy way to become insanely wealthy: Heroic Thorium

Wow thanks stargarden!

Good attempt but i would add something thats out of limelight. Biotech- genetic engineering . The marriage of computer science and biology for discovery , research and treatment of disease will be huge . Many medical jobs will be gone .. there will be gene editing and you can create your own useful microbes in kitchen and so on

You are right indeed! #4 CRISPR is the bioinformatic breakthrough of the next 20 years https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CRISPR

thanks for sharing this article

These are surely some of the biggest technologies which will affect our lives. AI and deep learning will especially take away most of the basic jobs, like translation, transcription, accounting and even coding. On the another side, technology like CRISP will help us cure many diseases and we may even see Dinos and animal-human hybrids soon!!!

Its interesting though because those same technologies can help us facilitate new types of work never seen before. Steemit blogger, drone pilots, creative nerdy bizint people, dino-human hybrid makers yes.

Haha, yes! Just that works will become much more specialized now.

Yeah we definately need basic income or people will freak out in all countries with new technologies. The Scandinavian countries are testing a basic income which I really admire. They seem to be the current global future thinkers!

I think I know what you're talking about ... they're just miles ahead in terms of social and institutional tech than us here in America. Basic health seems so basic lets get on it

Correct :)

Yes we need baisc income

If BTC, ETH, and Steem hit a trillion dollar market cap. All of the current user will never need a Basic Income again.

Well idealistically if BTC, ETH and STEEM hit a trillion dollars the current users will go out and implement basic income! I know I would like to be part of that

Truly - Steemit is like an experiment in that direction in my mind.

Yes true . For me steem it is a dream become .
True imagine my first salaire in the real life was 50$ in one month 😂😂 now there is some people help and i it's like a dream !!!

The question here is what happens to Humanity when computers are self aware because of #1.) Deep Learning and we lose the skills to drive because of #2.) Driverless Vehicles and robots don't need us to create more robots because of #3.) 3D Printing and #6.) Robotics and Automation and human children will be born using #4.) CRISPR and all our money will in #5.) Mobile Transactions & #7.) Cryptoassets

Will we be redundant and be dependent on the kindness of our cyber masters ?

Well the issue here being that depending on where you currently live and how wealthy you are : you might already be enslaved and dependent on the kindness of your "masters" ... so the idea that EVERYTHING now becomes another mechanism of control needs to be examined very closely. Transparency and control typically dont go hand in hand, however if you wont learn to read the blockchain then yes it would be very easy to assume that its another tool of enslavement.

I agree. The sad thing is where you currently live and how wealthy you are will just include only a small portion of humanity

The sad thing is that I am one of about four people in Bellingham WA that knows what a blockchain is... so you my friend are winning harder than many people! Secondly to answer your question said Deep Learning algorithms lead to what we call Artificial Narrow Intelligence... its much too ... narrow to emulate or simulate human consciousness. Before we can make a computer thats self aware we will have to first understand how it is that we are self aware (thats my opinion).

if you are able to I think you should go join PALs : they're a beneficial organization that helps people get abreast so to speak here on Steemit heres an invitation : https://discord.gg/yyhTpa

Interesting stuff. Will have to have a better look into this. Thanks for posting :) Steem on!

You're welcome! Thanks for checking it out @stargarden 🌻
