RIP Anthony Bourdain (1956 - 2018)

I am neither a foodie nor a traveller, and I certainly don't know my way around a kitchen. But I don't have to be any of those to know who is Anthony Bourdain.
I used to watch a lot of cooking and travel shows with my wife. In the process, I learned a few famous names in the culinary world such as Andrew Zimmern, Michael Smith, Jamie Oliver and a few more. Bourdain is one of them, and was definitely a favorite of mine among those few.
His casual irreverance, uneager to please yet unabrasive personality made No Reservations one of my favorite shows on TV. He gets around and often sticks out like a sore thumb in many foreign cultures (partly due to his slender and tall figure, I guess). Yet at the same time he seem so natural and always felt right at home for him.
He curses and drinks/smokes like a sailor where ever he goes, always with a smirk on his face. By all accounts he seem to be enjoying his life as a chef at large. Which is why it was so surprising for me to read that he has passed on by apparent suicide.
Regardless of what finally took him, rest in peace Anthony Bourdain, you will be sorely missed.

Often times the outer shell of a person does not reflect what is happening on the inside. His death is indeed tragic. All deaths are tragic.

Indeed. Not all depressed people look depressed. Other than Bourdain, the other person who comes to mind is Robin Williams.
