วัดโทไดจิ (todaiji) มีชื่อเรียดหลายไชื่อที่คนทั่วไกมักเรียกขามกันทั่วว่า วัดหลวงพ่อโตแห่ง เมืองนารา หรือ ไดบุตสึ ไม่ได้เป็นแค่วัดดัง ของจังหวัดนาราเท่านั้นนะค่าบ บอกได้เลยว่าวัดนี้เป็นวัดที่มีชื่อเสียงระดับประเทศเลยก็ว่าได้
นับเป็นหนึ่งในวัดที่มีชื่อโด่งดัง วัดแห่งนี้ได้ถือกำเนิดขึ้นจากจักรพรรดิ และเริ่มก่อสร้างเมื่อปี 725 การก่อสร้างแล้วเสร็จในปี 749 และโบสถ์ของมหาพระพุทธเจ้าก็ได้รัยการก่อสร้างใรเวบาเดียวกัน เดือนเมษายร 752 ได้เพิ่ทเติทการตกแต่งครั้วสุดท้ายและมีการจัดงานรำลึก ก่อนที่จะสร้างเสร็จ
