The us federal bureau of investigation has arrested a Russian national in Guam and charged him with illegally exporting defence materials, according to court documents, Russian media said.

Russia's Sputnik news agency reported on January 5, 2019, that the court documents were filed with the U.S. district court for the northern mariana islands and that the date of the signing of the documents indicated December 31, 2018, but were not publicly released until Friday (January 4).

The documents say defendant Dimitrii Makarenko was arrested on December 29, 2018. He is accused of secretly exporting defense supplies without a license in June 2017.
After listening to all sides, the judge approved the government's request for a transfer and asked the defendants to be brought to southern Florida, the report said.

Makarenko's arrest came a day after the FSB arrested Paul Whelan, an American citizen, on Dec. 28, 2018, local time, for spying and subsequently opened a criminal investigation into Whelan. If convicted, whelan faces 10 to 20 years in prison.
Indeed, long before Russia's arrest of Ms. Whelan, the United States had also arrested a Russian citizen, Maria v.btina, and accused her of being a "Russian agent" who had infiltrated the national rifle association (NRA) and lobbied members to influence American foreign policy toward Russia.
