Why can't the Australian education system and the media educate its citizens?

One would have to conclude Australia has form when it comes to dealing with non-white fellow humans; look at the treatment of asylum seekers imprisoned indefinitely in Naru and Manus Island...
Consider fellow humans brought to Australia for medical treatment are about to be denied basic support and housing to compel them to either go back to PNG or the countries from which they fled. Will the "Good Christians" ever so busy campaigning to deny marriage equality find the time to offer Christian compassion to those asylum seekers?
The times and methods have changed, the cruelty hasn't. Now, it seems Australia is following Former PM Keating's stated desire to the bumbling Liberal Party Leader years ago, "I want to do you slowly", to the latest groups of non-white human beings. Australia is doing them slowly under the rationale that by being cruel to an exemplar group, it will dissuade others from even considering to seek asylum in Australia.
If not for altruistic and humanitarian motivations, Australians need to keep in mind, "Karma's a Bitch!"
