The River

My late-husband's sister told me a joke earlier today which I found amusing:

A pastor stood before his congregation, delivering the weekly sermon. The theme was the subject of alcohol and the evils of overindulgence. The minister said, "If I had my way, I'd take all the beer in the world and throw it in the river!" He continued, "If I had my way, I'd take all the wine in the world and throw it in the river! If I had my way, I'd take all the whiskey in the world and throw it in the river!"

He finally finished his sermon and called upon the Choir Director to lead everyone in a closing song. The Choir Director hesitated for a moment, sheepishly stood and said, "Please join us for the closing hymn, 'Shall We Gather at the River.'"

The point of my sharing this story today, besides [hopefully] spreading a chuckle or two, is to illustrate how things can easily go awry if we don't communicate with others while making plans. We often become entangled in our own little worlds and don't think about how our plans and actions can impact others. Communication and forethought should be practiced, or unexpected results can happen otherwise!
