Same post, different reward.

Value is a subjective thing. Have you ever written a post that you know deep down took little effort and wasn't up to standard but got a lot of upvotes for it? I have. I have also spent hours on a post I thought was good but it got little or no upvotes. This had me thinking about value and what is actually been valued here on steem.

Engagement and consistency thumbs quality.

Hard to swallow but it is true. I have heard people complain about how hard it is to discover new content on steem. However, this isn't a steem problem. If you decide to move to medium or any blogging platform I assure you that same struggle persist there. You can write your heart out but it will translate into nothing. I got my first following and clap on medium after a comment left on another person's post.

@humanearl talked about recipocrity in his last video. I believe it is the energy that regulates the blogging sphere. Chances are I will care about what you write if you care about what I write. The reality remains that you're not special. Whatever you do or say here someone can do the same, even at a cheaper rate. So the only way to achieve anything meaningful is by networking--that's the whole idea behind social media.

I have a hard time reading through my posts on steem, that's why I automated some of my articles, like upvoting. The time I have left is spent creating content and watching videos on studies and building my reputation on other platforms I'm using since I plan to do this for a long time I need to branch out and make new connections.

Build your network

Most of the people(steemians) you follow how are probably going to be orcas/whales in the next 10-15years from now. For me, that's the real investment, not hodling steem (which is very important). You might hodl a lot of steem in the future but no one cares about you or what you do. That's not really a pleasant fate because at some point money won't be your major problem anymore. At some point in your life, you will seek impact, and you cannot really buy that (well except you have a lot of cash to throw around). So work on your recreation. I have a bromance with @kenanqhd. @dmilliz is my Jamaican friend in Japan. I know I can approach him anytime. I and @mistakili are getting close. @Nathanmars and @theycallmedan are like mentors to me. It's only a matter of time these relationships pay off. You can see that all the names I mentioned aren't big fishes, that's because I network with the small and big. Generally, anyone who is putting in work is my pal on steem. I don't do things on steem to get people's vote. Most of my earnings come from dtube and I'm fine with that. But I will be damned if I neglect engagement.

In conclusion, I want to reiterate my points. First, value is subject. Second, what people value more on steem is engagement/relationship which is rare.
