Dog walk diaries: afk

in #thoughts6 years ago

I spend, like many others, a fair amount of time sitting and tapping away at a keyboard and most of it is spent writing articles and answering comments. For me, I am more capable when I am able to sit for a block of time and write in a stream of thought, rather than piece by piece, a paragraph here or there. Due to current life, these blocks are hard to find plus, I am trying to spend more time moving, rather than sitting.

Because I have less blocks of time, I now use them for writing and posts and get to the majority of comments a little later. I try not to post and run though as, it is annoying when authors don't answer comments for days. I have noticed that engagement has dropped with this approach which is because even if answered later, the mind of the commentor has moved, filled with new ideas and conversations. There is a cost.

However, when I have shorter amounts of time available, I use these for comments. I generally don't comment from my phone though as I like to quote and link and since I am not proficient at it, it makes it very slow. I try to get to all comments in some way though, as regulars know.

The time I have has also been affected by the summer since for the first time in quite a few years, it has been warm and sunny and with our daughter growing so fast, I have chosen to enjoy a lot of it outside with her. It has been a great summer plus I got to see @galenkp after 12 years too, if only for a week.

Last night while out, I realised how much I miss dancing and socializing at that level so I plan on increasing the frequency, at least more oftwn than the once a year it has been. I don't like to waste time consuming much so the spare time I have, I still try to make it valuable. When I relax, I relax hard so to speak, not just sit and do nothing. Doing nothing frustrates me more than relaxes. Dancing is great for me on so many levels and is never time wasted.

Introducing some shorter posts is also on my agenda as I tend to write so much that people haven't the space to read it all so, sometimes I will attempt to possibly maybe occasionally get thoughts out that are faster to read. The pain... but, yesterday I wrote something like 5000 words without comments included.

I obviously enjoy writing and it is also pretty obvious that it is an outlet of a kind for me while still being a medium that I can hopefully bring value to the community. I try not to be too self-indulgent but, this is social media and society runs on preferences.

My goal with a lot of my text is to help people think about their own preferences and perhaps adjust them in order to get better, more fulfilling results each day. I find that people who are enjoying their experience no matter what they face, are also the most valuable to the community, especially in the long run.

So, since it is warm and the dog needs to get home and drink some water, I will end this ramble here. When home, I will get to comments I have missed overnight and, if my daughter sleeps for long enough, maybe get to a proper post. I find though that reflecting on my process has value and keeps me adjusting and, interested.

The same goes for me, I hate doing nothing. I'm almost always restless, and feel the need to do something.

I am unsure if it is a good or bad thing but I find that I relax better when doing something that builds rather than stands still. Even the housework is relaxing at times..... don't tell my wife.

Thanks for putting together this update. I noticed you'd been less prolific than usual but sometimes that's only good for you.

Steemit.com has been painfully slow and unreliable for the past couple of days. Is this an issue with the front end or the blockchain? Are they testing something on the blockchain?

Yes, I think I will ride some waves a little and play a little more too :)

I am not sure but generally it means they are upgrading something or, have broken something in an upgrade :)

I think it's the front end because Steemworld is working just fine.

busy wasn't though. Seems okay now though.

I think that was what drew me to your posts in the first place. They are thinking pieces and thought provoking. You don't give all the answers but leave them so people can add comments to complete the post as such.

The completion on posts in the comments I think is valuable to developing understanding as it makes it a proper discussion. I also hope that it spins off new content and ideas from it.

Sometimes the comments have more information than the posts and I look forward to reading them. I agree they can give you ideas for future posts.

Don't worry about us, you have to enjoy the precious time with your family. Kids grow so fast!!!

I agree, I think this shorter format, is more practical and beneficial for you and the people that follow your content

You need to listen to the song I posted on your other post about happiness.. (really listen to it! lol).

Relax a little...?

You don't need any encouragement mate. You write many great posts and I'm sure even short ones would be very interesting. Seeing we don't get any time back at any point like free lives in a game or a reset it should definitely be used constructively. I like being busy in a constructive way and find myself looking for things to improve and to start so I can spend time tweaking them

Your dog deserves some time, too. Have you considered teaching it to dance?

Mine won't, but you might have a smarter dog...

My dog is the mayor of 'Footloose city'. Dancing is forbidden although, he lets our daughter dance a few steps before barking.

After reading this post I got thirsty too.

It is always comforting to do what you like and want, and much more if you have enough skills. It is good to know that you have enjoyed the summer with the family. Dancing is one of the best activities.
