Automatic Shard Creation: Using a PoW allows the shaker to automatically create shards. She first selects a specific set of nodes, called the DS committee. The election is based on PoW. At regular intervals called DS-epoch, one member of the DS committee is exited and another new member is elected. (Using first-in-first-out policy)
Therefore, the size of the DS committee is always fixed. The new node participating in the committee is the node that is the earliest proof of the job. Once the DS committee is elected, sharding begins. All other nodes in the network perform different task proofs. The work proof is validated by the DS committee. The submitted nodes of the proof-of-work are randomly assigned to a particular shard. The last few bits you submit with a proof of work determine which shard that node will be assigned.
