Hey everyone!

We've made HUGE progress in the past month! We now have a full category/sub-category feature along with a lot of improvement on the front-end such as re-editing your own posts and quoting others for better conversation flow.

There is still a long road ahead to bring this software to its full strength but with your support, we'll get there. :-)

To celebrate that, free upvote for everyone on this thread!

PS: Did you know you can now start your own TokenBB forum with your own subdomain? Register your forum today at https://tokenbb.io/
PS(2): One upvote per person for the next 7 days and we hide spam.

This is looking very good since @thecryptodrive showed me a month or so ago. Congratulations on the progress.

PS: Did you know you can now start your own TokenBB forum with your own subdomain?

I am very interested in exploring a new community model for homeschoolers and unschoolers on Steem. Do you think TokenBB would be appropriate.

Are all forums public? Or are they options for making any parts private?

Ooh, my mistake. That is odd, will see if we can reproduce. It currently auto-refreshes the posting auth status on login, so I expect that problem to be fairly rare.

I was among the first testers back when the UI was a bit....yeaaah! It looks absolutely glorious at the moment. The functionality has improved significantly and I simply cannot wait to sit behind the wheel. My friends are equally excited to start earning something from their posts.

I will again recommend taking a look at the xenforo forum software and incorporating some of those features on here like embedding from websites like Twitter or Giphy, notifications and maybe user levels.

Great work. Absolutely great work.

Great to see TokenBB growing and releasing beta which looks quite impressive. Pages devided after some posts or comments is a great way to reduce burden of the comments to load in a single page and separated with low volume.

Though some bugs are visible right now like it is not showing the real value of the comment or upvotes otherwise great work by all of you.

My thoughts so far.

You comment on here and it doesn't show up on your steemit post. This is very cool. Since, I haven't made a post on Tokenbb yet, is there a way from keeping that post from showing up on the steemit/steempeak/busy feed of my followers. This has been one of my biggest complaints about apps like a zappl. I don't want a bunch of couple sentence posts showing up on my feed.

Any thoughts on adding a stand along "ranking" system on the platform to indicate moderator, senior member, newb etc? Also, signatures? I really liked how you could sign up to add a signature to your comments on bitcointalk.org and received a certain amount of bitcoin per comment as long as it wasn't just spam.

I like the side by side preview and the ability to sign in using keychain. Honestly, this looks awesome and may just be a way to get my friends back on Steemit!

Keep up the great work.

This is cool! I’ve seen TokenBB from Drugwars board. I have one suggestion. Could you remove the need of posting right authorization? More seamless integration with steem keychain is needed. I don’t any any reason why posting right authorization is needed with steem keychain. Thanks.

ps. user selection should be improved. Sorry for another comment as anonymous which I didn't intend but I was selected as anonymous user even after I authorized my posting right. Hope this helps.

Waiting to have our SM forum available to repost and edit some of the analysis of the cards here, much easier to find to any player in this forum than in Steemit.

Do we have a date to the launch of TokenBB?, and another question, will this forum have the same time limit for upvoting as steemit has?

Congrats for your work guys, this seems to me a very interesting proyect.

https://monsters.tokenbb.io/ is live :)

We are launched and are accepting forum registration. But we are in beta, as many features we deem critical are not yet finisched.

Yes, the time limit is the same, as we use normal comments to reward people.

@blockchainstudio, thanks for the great feedback.

We will look into making your authorised account default on first sign-in, whew, so much to do still!

Regarding the Keychain request it is unlikely to change in the short-term Tokenbb is geared towards ease of use for our users, things should just work. Keychain would introduce subtle problems we can't mitigate in our own backend, retries, co-ordination with our database and even policing beneficiary reward status.

View the topic on TokenBB

Hi @thecryptodrive, thanks for your reply! Not many PO reply to users feedback sadly :) I actually didn't know you're in this project. To be honest, I always wonder why thecryptodrive is on the top witness list, now the mystery is resolved. If you haven't seen, you may find interest in my recent post: Witness of the people, by the people, for the people

ps. Regarding your answer, I got it if you need it in your backend. But I still don't understand why that backend logic is needed, maybe some efficiency? For instance, to me so far, steempeak works quite seamlessly with keychain without posting right authorization. I has retry feature for instance. While I agree that steemconnect style's posting right authorization has been a dominant way, but unless it's absolutely needed (e.g., voting automation, scheduled post), that should be avoided.

Anyway, tokenbb is actually very awesome project, and I'll try to contribute on GH too. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback and for stopping by! The #1 benefit is for communities to have their own sandbox hosted on their own domain. For example, DrugWars and SteemMonsters would be better off having a Steem powered forum on their own domain rather than having losing the attention on people over on steemit.com...it's also a great place to aggregrate all the content related to a topic. (it's also better for SEO)

All forums will be public but unlisted until we have a forum explorer, Steem is a public blockchain so can't have private forums. But if you don't advertise your forum, people aren't likely to know about it.

I didn't know that. I visited this site from your posting and login with steem keychain. but it seems that authentication process has some issue. it shows me guest account with my steem accout having warning symbol.

It seemed to have worked since I see your account here. I think all we need is some form of refresh. We will add this to our list of debug

i like the sign in options. It's a nice touch to start with. I've been following the buildteam a lot closer lately and am only waiting to see the token on steem engine so that i canpick some up and stake it. Great project from a great team and nice to see it coming together here.

Tokens on Steem-engine is about 2 months away, but you can get them via https://wallet.bitshares.org right now, later they will be exchangeable with Steem-Engine tokens.

visit our token page for more info https://www.buildteam.io/tokens.php

I actually went looking at it yesterday with the intention of buying some. Created an account, thought about what i wanted to sell from my portfolio and then decided I really didn't want to go messing on another exchange and with more tokens. I just didn't like the layout on bitshares and the options to trade that i had. I decided to wait until they are ready for steem-engine and try to keep things a little simpler for myself.

Thanks man! Checking out Zenforo right now!

User @gniksivart wrote at 21.03.2019 02:49:24 UTC:

I'm so glad you like the forum progress so far @gniksivart, how TokenBB works regarding comments is that everything happens within the @forums.tokenbb Steem account, a forum is basically a post and topics are comments and replies are nested comments, if that makes sense. There will never be a post on your account, however all of your comments will appear on your comments menu on Steemit.com or whatever other UI you use.

Ranking would be good, but probably has to be forum specific or have global ranking as well. I'm not a huge fan of signatures cause they can get messy and spammy and interrupt the flow of conversation, but may look at it much later when we run out of things to implement :)

Awesome progress in short span of time and wishing TokenBB a great success in further releases.

Admin functionality with categories works a small bit better.

New topic creation received a cancel button.

A notification is added to tell you about new app updates so you always have the latest version available.

We have more fixes in the works, one being notifications for errors and actions performed, another being the much requested quoting feature.

We are also working on ssl and custom domains, something we plan to support soon.

We improved quoting a bit, adding a timestamp and removing the horizontal lines. This makes quotes more compact, adds extra information and makes clicking that quote button a no brainer.

Some users had problems linking their Steem account and they did not receive their green checkmark signaling that the account is authorized.

Our dev @eonwarped improved the login flow with steemconnect and keychain to solve this step automatically. So if you as a uer had this problem, you can try logging out and then login again with the steemconnect or keychain method and your account should automatically be fixed.

Please give us feedback for login issues, we are working hard to make this process as simple and unobstrusive as possible for you.

Some users noticed certain html elements being removed once they posted their comment.

We are sanitizing all html to protect readers from malicious content. But we noticed that this process was overcealous in what it removes. So we relaxed it a bit and enabled a notification for when parts of the html are removed. This means if you notice your comment lacking something it had in the editor then contact us and we will see about fixing it.

There is no need to clear any caches as this is a backend update.

We have added pagination to the topic list and to replies in topics. This should improve performance especially on mobile devices.

We also fixed a few inconveniences when posting topics or replies and made the app smarter as to what happens after actions succeed or fail.

Okay, so initially logging in with SteemConnect didn't quite work... I had to click on the 'anon' username at the very top, select my username, go through SteemConnect again but this time with posting authority and then it was all fine. It's a shame the two posts above are now forever anon instead of converting to my username now that I've logged in properly.

Also looks like GINA on Discord sees every reply here as a mention.

Yeah the "Testing testing 123" was me. So it seems like tokenbb works via setting up a forum in an individual main-comment, and all replies are sub-comments -- very neat. I'll keep my eye on this -- might be cool to implement a forum for my own project in the not too distant future.

@cryptoctopus, I think a tag, and maybe a link to the post that is being replied to would be ideal. Something like: """ MESSAGES GOES HERE *** Reply to @mstafford - [LINK TO ORIGINAL REPLY] """ So that way you'll receive a mention notification, and a link to the context?

Topic: Testing out the Forum. Thoughts/Feedback

Lovely new addition by BT team. Actually heard recently a guy mention that he has a large group of people on facebook that would be interested in moving to Steem if Steem had an integrated Forum function.
So there you have it.

Ill send him the link.

From what im seeing here right now, As Cryptodrive said, its still looking bland a bit, like eating oatmeal. :D
(Oh look the smileys work already)

Didnt notice any bugs atm outside of the aesthetic and window positioning kind...

One thing i would recommend is that you try and avoid, at any cost, beneficiary fees.
That is the death of platforms here.
There are a number of ways you can monetize the forums...

An idea i had would be creating premium on-platform digital content similar to what Discord is doing... Even take a look at https://quidd.co/ that sells digital stickers.. Try and incorporate another monetization method or i fear beneficiary fees will scare a lot of people off. Try being imaginative in that regard.

Thats about it for now.. See ya around.

View this topic on TokenBB

Reply to Testing out the Forum. Thoughts/Feedback

Thanks for the support and suggestion. We are working on the couple of models:

1- Split 50/50 of beneficiary rewards. So that it creates an incentives for forum owners to build their community and have instant monetization.
2- There is also the option that the owners pay us a monthly fee to have their forum and they get to keep the beneficiary rewards (set by them)

We are open to other suggestions. Ads could be part of the plan but it's definitely not a favorite of people in general. But the ad model could work.

View the topic on TokenBB

Reply to Testing out the Forum. Thoughts/Feedback

Ads could work, yes. I still think there is an opportunity here for more inovative solutions.
When you mention beneficiary fees, users tend to step back a bit. Especially now that a cut in author rewards is being talked about with the Blocktrades worker proposal system.

That's another thing that I'm encountering too. I think it is important to be able to edit everything after it's already posted, and that includes being able to edit the post AND title at any time. But right now, Title's cannot be edited, and posts can only be edited on Steemit. My first preference would be to allow editing of the title and post on TokenBB, but if that's impossible due to blockchain constraints, being able to edit on Steemit would suffice. But if editing posts and titles must be done on Steemit.com, the link to Steemit should say "Edit on Steemit" instead of "View on Steemit" and should work seamlessly.

I think from memory chainbb just had a single forum per subject area. So I had a Basic Income forum, and it was just a single forum with no categories or sub forums. So I was able to set it so that any time someone wrote a post on steem with the tags basicincome, ubi etc it would show up in the forum. There was no "importing" of posts, chainBB was basically just another front end on the steem blockchain. It was just a different way of organising the blockchain data.

Do you guys have a discord channel?

@revo, once logged in you should see a settings option in top left, there you can setup your categories, we can help you with categories and subcategories as the admin panel is not 100% finished, I think you can only set categories currently, but if you give us a site structure we can manually set it up for you. Have a look at https://drugwars.tokenbb.io for an example.

There's no settings icon that I can see. In the top left is your tokenBB icon. Clicking it does nothing.

edit: logged out and in again, and it appeared. Cheers.

While I've got you here, another question...

Jesta's old chainBB forum allowed the admin of a forum to set tags that would pick up any steem posts matching those tags and include them in the forum. Is this an option on tokenBB?

Reply to Ok, I have my new forum.

@revo I saw your message come up but can't find it easily on chain as all messages go to one comments section. Ie the forum is a post, the topics and replies and the replies are nested comments. Also Tokenbb is one way, if you reply via Partiko or Steemit.com it won't show on the forum.

please can you paste everything you said over here on https://test.tokenbb.io. I did briefly see that you can't see the settings, I will get @reggaemuffin to look into it in about 8 hours.

Hi @thecryptodrive. Here's what I posted (via steempeak). I sorted the settings thing, just logged out and in again.

While I've got you here, another question...

Jesta's old chainBB forum allowed the admin of a forum to set tags that would pick up any steem posts matching those tags and include them in the forum. Is this an option on tokenBB?

View the topic on TokenBB

Reply to Ok, I have my new forum.

@revo, can you expand on that a little? How were the posts imported, ie all the post data and images imported as a topic? or was just a post link imported as a reply in a specific topic?

What about comments on the post, were those imported too?

The idea is to be one-way otherwise people can write malicious code on the Steem side and gets imported to our blog, also having to poll the chain all the time for new updates makes it very resource intensive, but ur dev team can have better insights into whether this would be possible.

As you can see we need many urgent features like admin categories management first before we look at something like this.

Hello! This is my first comment on TokenBB. I would like to mention the fact that TokenBB is not the first forum on the Steem blockchain. ChainBB (https://chainbb.com) was also a forum on the Steem blockchain. The website of ChainBB is still working, but the forum is offline since 2018.03.29. The details about this can be found in the following blog post: chainbb.com - going offline.

As steemian nothing imposible to going grow up from minnow to a big stuff.

to get to that all right now I need support from you;
is there a place for me to make a loan of steempower / steem ... to be able to increase my money, loan time for 1 month, with a reasonable offer. I tried to borrow around 100 Steem / SP.

Keeping all the elements aligned would give it a more clean look. I’m on iOS and on portrait mode the background elements are lined up along the left with account section up top, but the typing section stretches far to the right, and the Steem value and upvote boxes leave the gray area of the screen. Maybe widening the background and account box to make it seem like everything is contained would help.

What i think would be great is if you could allow a forum owner that might pay a premium price or is a subscriber the option of customizing his forum home page beyond the original tokenBB design. That would allow communities to visually differentiate themselves.

I noticed that the "All Categories" category is absent when a person clicks on it to select a category. I am not sure about this, but I kind of think that the "All Categories" link should be included in the list of categories, even when a person clicks on the category dropdown menu to narrow their search. EXAMPLE: - There might be times when someone clicks on the categories dropdown menu to narror their search, but decide to go back to view All Categories. I have done this several times and it was uncomfortable to need to click "Back" on my cell phone, and I would have preferred to just navigate to the All Categories link naturally.

I noticed that there was recently an update for the mobile version of TokenBB. It looks better, but when you click on the Categories, the letters and words of the categories on a Samsung Note 5 are TOO SMALL. When we click on the categories on a mobile phone, I believe the categories should be enlarged almost to the point of filling up the screen (full screen) - that way it will be easy for people to read the categories and see the letters clearly.. especially for people with smaller phones and poor eyesight.

Topic: Suggestion: Pop user back to the last comment they viewed on a thread.

Hi, guys.

If you have been around TokenBB since the inception of the previous user interface I know we can all agree that things are really coming together nicely. This is a project I am fully backing and would love to see become the ultimate Forum Software around.

Now, to help further that cause there are several things that can be implemented to improve the user experience. That is after all the best way to make people return several times over to a forum.

While returning to view a thread, users should be snapped directly to where they last were in that thread. Basically the last comment they viewed.

At the moment that is not available and you have to go through the pagination to find your comment.

You basically have to remember which page you were on in order to find your comment. That would be an amazing feature.

Thank you very much to the TokenBB team for this awesome product. I continue to support you through it all.

This is just an idea but it might be possible to create a Hall of Fame of the Top Users for each particular forum.. it can also be a Premium feature that can only be activated for paid Forum Owners.

The main Demo site could list the Top Users acrossed all TokenBB forums while each particular forum would only display the Top Users for their particular forum. But caution should be noted and this feature should be disabled by default IMO since it might crowd people's websites more than some owners prefer.

View this topic on TokenBB

Reply to Hall of Fame for Top Users

We also have to consider what metrics to use for the hall of fame/leaderboard, is it most active with replies, or highest value earnings upvote wise, etc, it can be gamed and can cause spam, i would make it a leaderboard that is forum specific and not global, users of a sports forum wouldn't really have anything to do with a forum on homesteading for example.

View the topic on TokenBB

Reply to Hall of Fame for Top Users

having the leaderboard localised per forum makes sense also because admins can control leaderboard farming accounts easier by deleting their comments which then won't count. If the leaderboard is global, there is no way for admins to tell if what they are doing on other forums is legit, there is an attack vector where someone could create their own forum for only the purpose of self voting so they can get to the top of the leaderboard rankings.

We have a database backend. The problem is if you have 10000 topics and 10000 users, you get 1000000 unread counters. It basically explodes very fast. So we have to find a way that is useful for the people using it but not breaking down once many use it

A subscribe-to-topic feature is an okay idea, but it isn't a deal breaker if you don't create one, especially in the beginning while the forum communities are still small (it might be unneccesary). But if the forum communities start getting really large, with a lot of topics and posts added daily or even hourly.. it might be nice to be able to subscribe to our favorite topics (i.e. subscribe via email). I'm not sure if I'd use it though. Probably not at first.

Is tokenbb using some kind of database in conjunction with the blockchain ? It should be necessary for users' profile informations, read/unread informations couldn't be stored in it ? (just asking, I'm not a developer, so I don't know the limits of these kind of systems).

The date/time feature in the forum is good, but I think that the date format should be changeable.
There should be a "Settings" option for every user.
The current date format is Day-Month-Year (14.03.2019), but I (and many other people) use Year-Month-Day (2019.03.14).

Great idea! Definitely a planned feature for later, once we introduce user settings :)

I think that's a good idea.. or at least the date that Topics and Replies were posted - Sometimes it helps place a post in the right context, based on when it was posted. Example: If there is a form that publishes news, the date might be important.

Just a word about new users, who would register on Steem to be able to participate into a forum.

If we (long date members) are aware of RC's management things, new users may not know about it at first glance.

I suggest a gauge under the user name in the header of the forum, and/or a warning when a users posts a message and is getting low in RC's.

That way, he will understand the anti-spam aspect of this feature and will be able to properly manage his RC's for the first times.

I've been working on something that can give users free delegations for a limited time period when their RC is under a certain amount as long as they aren't blacklisted by a few blacklists of my choice. I'm pretty sure it's already in the todo list, but just in case, a report button, not to flag and downvote, but to report a post to the moderation team.

Also, moderation tools will have to include a delete post (not a real deletion because of the blockchain use, but the post would be hidden).

Topic: Make the Steem Reward amount clickable.

I recommend that you make the actual amount of each Steem Reward clickable, so that users can view who upvoted a particular post, but I'd recommend against changing the appearance of the numbers (aside from adding a $ sign). I think it would add too much if you underlined it, or made the numbers bold. It's good enough for people to just stumble upon being able to discover who upvoted what without making the Reward amount over-complicated, or "too much". I really enjoy seeing who upvoted what on Steem-based Dapps and personally get discouraged, and in a significant way, when it is hard or impossible to see who voted what.

I'm not really sure if this is possible with a website but it seems like @dollarvigilante has this on their website and I would personally like Push Notifications for new posts on all of the Forums I will create.

Email notifications would be a second option but Push Notifications on my phone, or Desktop notifications like what Facebook does would be really good.

thank you for the suggestion, push notifications are on the roadmap but in the meantime you can use GINAbot to get instant notifications through Discord on mobile, web, and desktop. After you have downloaded Discord from your app store, follow these steps to setup:

  1. click on this invite to BuildTeam Public server
  2. go to #registration channel and type: ..reg chrisrice
  3. follow GINAbot's instructions to verify your account
  4. activate the comment/others option in your notification settings:
  5. done. you will get notified when someone replies tp your topic.

Topic: Place a $ sign in front of the Steem rewards

One of the greatest appeals of forums Powered by TokenBB (in relation to standard forums) is the ability to earn by foruming. Because of it's attractive nature, I recommend that you place a $ sign in front of the Steem rewards for each topic, and each post. Otherwise, some people (new to Steem) may not even know it's points, rewards or anything like that. As it stands now, it just looks like random numbers in the corner of the posts (to non-Steemians). One of the beautiful things about TokenBB is that people can just forum, without having to sign-up for Steem or even wanting to earn. But for newcomers, it would still peak their interest if they saw $ signs on the side of each post, and it might keep an otherwise bounce on the Forum, long enough on the site to learn more more (ie they might eventually become an active user). That is why I think it's good to add $ signs in front of the Steem Rewards.

Technically it isn't a dollar value it is a Steem STU value, so maybe another currency symbol or perhaps $ to start

View the topic on TokenBB

Reply to Place a $ sign in front of the Steem rewards

I definitely think the $ symbol is the absolute best symbol to use. Throughout the world, the $ symbol is the most universal symbol for money, so if you want people to know that it is a real currency being earned.. and not just "Points".. use a $ symbol. People will eventually discover that it isn't $USD for themselves later on anyways.. just like I did. If you use any other symbol, you risk people thinking it is just fake money, monopoly money so to speak, or just points like Waze or Shopee Rewards. Remember, first impressions last and it is important for people to see that real money can be earned in the first few seconds they open the site - otherwise.. they may leave the site after a few seconds and never return. Using a $ sign will probably increase the stickiness of first time visitors and it would help me market my TokenBB forum.

Hey guys!
A feature that could really improve the usage of the website is to make usernames clickable and get a button "show topic started" - "show all posts". That way it will be really easy to read about things we care.

Another cool one is to add in the Account section a page called "my posts" or "my threads" to have them all gathered in a single place.

There will be a beneficiary reward for the forum owner and for tokenBB.What do you think are good values for these?

View this topic on TokenBB

Reply to Beneficiary Reward Split Discussion

Finally got around to playing with TokenBB for the first time and it's looking good so far! The payment tiers don't look at all unreasonable to me, but one thing I'd love to see is the possibility of these being automated or "earned." Not to compare the two projects, but that was one aspect ChainBB had developed that was interesting. Better revenue splits and tiers were automatically unlocked as the earnings flowing through your forum grew, and along with it the hosts/developers revenue.

With the structure of these plans, there are points at which the economics for the forum owner dictate a clear switchover. If my math is correct, the Basic plan should be purchased as soon as $180 USD a month of rewards are flowing through a forum's posts, Standard at $800, and Premium at $1600.

While owners can and should be incentivized to purchase premium packages to get quicker access to features that will help them customize and grow their forum faster, I think they could also earn these features by growing their volume alone.

It also makes it nice that forum owners don't have to worry about sending payments each month, nor do you have to worry about invoicing and collecting them, as long as their forum is sustaining suitable activity to keep them in the proper tier. The 180/800/1600 breakpoints above are the points where it is revenue neutral to TokenBB and fair to the consumers to simply grant them access to the upgraded features of the next plan level.

Hope that all makes sense and might be at least a bit of food for thought!

I also agree that TokenBB should always take at least some cut, and out of ALL TokenBB forums.

The Forums with the most traffic will likely opt for Premium accounts and a flat fee likely wouldn't be enough compensation from your top performing Forums in the future (80% of your money will probably come from 20% of your forums, but it will only be a decent amount of income if you take a %, not just small flat fees a.k.a. Pareto Principle).

It's better to always include a % of some kind. It's what Google Adsense uses and I think they use % for a reason. If they allowed flat fees that would undercut their revenenues they would likely be worth a lot less.

Ah, now there's a bug! It just allowed posting of an empty comment.

Back on topic, before deciding on a % worth looking at some of the mechanics of posting and commenting - this is from experience of using chainBB when it was monetised.

Do new posts only appear if posted via tokenbb?

Do comments made on other platforms appear within the forum?

So, all depends on how easy it is to bypass the beneficiaries, though I'd set it low to encourage use - chainBB used to be 15% which was a tad high and frustrated uptake.

Also, bizarrely, many people don't know what a forum is!! Honestly!

@bryan-imhoff thanks for your in depth thoughts on this, I am hover just thinking of some edge cases where a forum may be for a small community or used as a bug hunt forum like ours, which won't have massive revenue flow, but may still want all of the features, in such a case the owner can pay for the features at anytime instead of having to bring in earnings.

It is also like "the chicken and the egg", a forum needs good features such as more flexible beneficiary options to draw the crowd, and the plan model makes most sense for this. We live in an instant gratification society whereby users want to access features today and not wait to earn them.

Another consideration is what happens when the forum hits the target volume for the extra features, but later dies down in popularity, would they lose their extra features?

Own domains possible on all packages we would have to implement blocking of sorts but once active its hard to turn off, so would rather get some traction first then decide on this carefully.

I think the free plan could include google ads for forum owner.

I mean, you can add a setting where a forum owner can insert his google ads id to monetize his forum.

In fact, I say the free plan, but every plan could hold this option.

Reply to Beneficiary Reward Split Discussion

We also plan to have a fixed monthly USD fee for forum owners who do not want tokenbb to take its share of forum rewards. I would also add the ability for such premium accounts to allow the owner to increase their own beneficiary rewards in the absence of the tokenbb share, up to the global max that tokenbb allows.

Also would be nice if premium forum owners could decide to make the beneficiary rewards zero if they don't need or want the rewards.

@sebbbl ads are really ugly and give a "cheap" feel to the forums, I may not be in favour of that, maybe would be ok on a sports forum as sports ads are somewhat acceptable and commonplace.

Standard pricing methods... Seems reasonable.
What you could maybe explore is ad revenue shares or what BAT is doing. Platform specific token rewards for thread/forum owners that opt for viewing ads on their forums.
I know that would be quite difficult to code.
Im not a fan of ads but there are ways to implement them that i dont mind in the slightest.

Simply put, I would like the form owner to be able to coustomize their own part, but up to a certian amount, maybe 10%. As for tokenbb's amount, it should be at max 5% and reevulated every 3 months or right after a HF depending on what happens sooner.

Reply to Beneficiary Reward Split Discussion

@rishi556 on all our paid plans we take 5% or 2.5%, or nothing if premium. Forum owner can customise own part up to 7.5% on standard plan, and unlimited customisation on Premium plan.

We can look at reviewing our % over time, for now we have no idea of what revenue will come in, it is easier to drop our % than increase it over time, so better to start higher otherwise trying to increase faces more pushback.

Everything is negotiable/reviewable over time.

I think it would be good to allow non-paying forum owners to take up to 10% of the rewards from their forum and offer even more flexibility for Premium forum owners, especially for unusual circumstances i.e. If someone commits 10,000,000 Steem Power to reward the users of a particular forum, there should be a limit no less than 75%. It would be a free market, and it may attract large investors and would likely reward users much more than setting the limit too low.

EXAMPLE:

If Premium forum owners set the beneficiary rewards too high, people will simply stop using their forums and will choose an alternative, especially since making an alternative of a TokenBB forum is a lot easier than making a Facebook alternative (the user data is public unlike Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Quora etc.)

Allowing higher beneficiary rewards might help entrepreneurs and forum owners raise higher delegations for their users if they agree to funnel most of the profits from their forum to delegators... but you can charge different fees for different limits and on a sliding scale - 75% would be the most expensive and only accepted under extremely unusual circumstances and requires an official proposal, followed by 60%, 50%, 40%, 30%, 20% and then the free version of 10% and below.

I believe a cut of 35% of the 10%-Beneficiary-Rewards-Cut would be a good starting point for TokenBB to raise funds from forum owners, but this can also be decreased if someone makes a competing platforum for forums and offers a better deal.

The key is not to underprice your services in the beginning since cutting prices will always be popular, but increasing prices if you set it too low at first can leave a really bad taste in people's mouth.

I don't know how high I'll set Beneficiary rewards for my forums but it would help if you made it flexible, since I want to funnel most of the rewards to delegators who will in turn, reward my forum users much to their liking - My ultimate goal is to enable people to earn decently well, just through their contributions on DavaoCity.xyz and other sites and forums.

If the beneficiary reward cut is to low, like 2.5% or even 5% for forum owners, newcomers with little Steem Power (like me) will have a hard time attracting investors and may not even be able to reward their users at all. Please take that into account.

The lowest cut I think TokenBB should take is 2.5% of total rewards.

@lordbutterfly made some good comments in a post which I link here: https://steemit.com/tokenbb/@lordbutterfly/steem-forums-application-tokenbb-open-registrations

He feels beneficiary rewards deter usage, which is why I mentioned with our premium subscription beneficiary rewards can be tweaked or removed altogther.

He also thought that thread/topic creators would get a beneficiary share and that isn't actually a bad idea, we should consider a 3 way split between tokenbb/forum owner /thread creators which will hopefully stimulate activity and curation happening within each topic by the creator of the topic, this could be very healthy for engagement and content creation.

Mechanics:

Do new posts only appear if posted via tokenbb? Yes

Do comments made on other platforms appear within the forum? No

So, all depends on how easy it is to bypass the beneficiaries, though I’d set it low to encourage use - chainBB used to be 15% which was a tad high and frustrated uptake. - Agreed, 10% should be max overall imo

I absolutely agree premium features should be purchasable immediately @cryptodrive. It's a choice for the consumer and an upsell for TokenBB!

Under an automated system, if a forum were to fall below it's thresholds for a defined period, say 60 days, invoicing to pay direct to retain premium features could begin.

Even if it's not fully automated, I guess I'd advocate for admin tools that show and prompt when it's clearly time to upgrade a forum to the next level so that users don't end up overpaying. These kinds of progress bars and reporting also add a level of gamification that can help motivate forum admins to drive more traffic and build their forum level.

In running the numbers, I also feel like you may actually be undercharging a bit on the high end, depending on what infrastructure and service support you may need to run on TokenBB in the backend. For instance, $69 seems like a lot when an individual is paying it out of pocket, but when just $1600 of rewards flow a month makes that top tier economically feasible, that's really not a huge amount. I do think removing the TokenBB reward share completely should be at a higher point than that. Perhaps Premium could still carry a 1% share to TokenBB that caps at a certain USD amount at which point a forum becomes a business or enterprise level client.

Thanks for the extra expansion on this @bryan-imhoff, some of the ideas are good, especially carrying a nominal 1% tokenbb beneficiary into premium. and notifications if the forum isn't earning enough to maintain the extra features and needs to switch to paid plan.

imo it may be difficult to code this payment system at the start, but it could be something that evolves, maybe we revise pricing annually or so.

Probably somewhere between 2.5/2.5 and 5/5. Perhaps the latter is too high?

edit: ah I see the conversation has moved on. While I would like to earn a percent on the Free package, I understand why you might want to charge for the ability to set beneficiaries for the forum owner. I'm just tight with my STEEM, no matter how small the amount is. ;)

Topic: Create Wiki creation features for Paid Members

I have two domain names that match each other very well and I want to use one as a forum, and the other as a Steem-based Wiki.

Since I learn best and even clarify my ideas best through discussions and conversations, I'd like to discuss the specific topics of interest on the TokenBB forum I create, and then publish the final or semi-final conclusions on the matching domain name in the form of a Wiki.

I stopped using Quora some time ago but I noticed that they also started adding in Wikis. Adding in Wikis into social apps somehow might become more widespread someday - one.of the things that Wikipedia lacks is benefits like visibility for their contributors. This would bring two great tools together on the Steem blockchain, it would empower people and.some of the code might already have been done by @steempedia.com.

I haven't tested their code yet but supposedly it's open source. If it's work already and can be used please let me know. I didn't understand whether or not it is already a finished project.

P.S. It might be another worthy project for @buildteam if it is almost finished.

I saw the post @chrisrice but it is 4 months old and no updates, I think when they saw they only got $8 on the post they abandoned again. The github is there but only their old one, and is only the frontend, no backend engine. I suspect we would start from scratch anyway using TokenBB as a base to work from.

I don't want to derail TokenBB at the moment, I say we develop it as best as we can and then hand it over to our marketing team to spread it far and wide, at that point the devs can start a new project.

Good. I'm happy to hear that @buildteam will be pursuing this. If you're not aware, @steepshot also went offline a little bit ago and turned into a dead project as well.

The open source code for @steepshot is open source too, and I have a unique idea for their software that I think would also be worth pursuing.

I will ask you privately on Discord what the requirements are for creating a BuildTeam project. I am interested in being a part of something that I can continuously add ideas too and I have a domain name that would go perfect with @steepshot's Open Source software.

Around the time that they shelved the project they said they made their work "Open Source as promised" in a blog post on Steemit.

Is it possible to completely delete open source projects from GitHub or are they permanent too?

Build Team might be able to move first to contact them and partner with them if their code is good.

Once the market turns around which I think it is already doing now, they might transform from dormant to active and Build Team as a company might want to prepare themselves ahead of time and partner with them early on.

They supposedly have a Github but you'd have to check the code to see if it is good. I haven't personally checked it yet but I want to use a Steem-based Wiki for @humanism.

Topic: Show the $ Votes, even when not Logged-In

I noticed after the recent TokenBB ...update that the $ Votes were not visible and I actually thought the site was broken. So I stopped using the site for a bit and checked after a few hours.. after a few hours the votes on the right hand side .of Topics and Replies hadn't appeared yet.

That is when I clicked on the Hamburger Menu in the upper right hand side of my mobile to see if I could figure out what was wrong and as it turns out.. I was logged out.

I logged in and sure enough, the votes on the side of the Topics re-appeared.

Aside from some people thinking the site might be broken when they are logged out.. new users who are first time visitors will not immediately see the $ signs, so they'll not know from the start that TokenBB is different from other websites and forums (users get paid for contributions).

I recommend that you make the $ signs and votes visible, even for people who are visiting for the first time and in the first few seconds. It will be a free marketing tool and forum owner will not need to market their sites as websites that compensates users, people will discover it themselves and instantly in some cases.

This would prevent people from falling into the "too good to be true" ideology and would make it much easier to attract active members and new sign-ups IMO.

@chrisrice the Custom domain feature is tricky because we need to find a work around to each custom domain being able to be used without implicitly having to trust it with our sign on app. Should have a solution during March but not immediate, for the the tokenbb subdomains work.

SSL should be part of that too.

The $ signs when logged out has been a request from a few people, probably a good idea and not too had.

I Power Up all of the Steem I earn and only purchase additional Steem off of the market on rare occasions.

Because of this, paying in Steem is inconvenient but I love the idea of people needing to have a Steem account in order to create a new Forum.

It is hard to find the comments you want in steemit. It will look like a garbage. In stead of posting like this it should change topic by topic. So we can easily find the comments we want and the structure will be very nice. It would need a lot of SP to post topic by topic. I hope you can handle it.

@mmunited this is intentional. Just don't view it on steemit.com or similar interfaces :D

The idea is that you can create a topic without it appearing in your steemit.com followers feed. And that requires it to be comments. We decided on one post per forum to have it grouped very simple.

If you have problems loading 600 comments then my suggestion is, don't. Our view in Steemit.com links link to one specific comment to reduce complexity and we link to tokenbb in gina and in all steem interfaces so that their interface does not have to die down because of comments.

Reply to New Topic needs to be in the form of a post

Isn't the New Topic, always the first post in every Topic? I think TokenBB is setup like tradition Forums, and I don't think it would be good for people to have to write a full blog post as a topic. But it would be good to have the word "New" highlighted somewhere for new posts, but it is only an idea. I also think the formating i.e. Bold, Italic, Underline, linebreaks, username tags, hyperlinks and embedsed images should work soon, they don't work yet.

View the topic on TokenBB

Whatever that could be, but that should be easy to distinguish.

Posted using Partiko Android

Have you ever been active in traditional forums like TokenBb before?

Or is this your first time participating in a forum like this?

Probably my first time.
I couldn't remember any.

Posted using Partiko Android

Yeah.. TokenBB is setup as an online forum, and it is much different than a blogging platform like Steemit.

The initial Topic being identical to the following posts, or at least close to identical is normal, but some forums display the word "New" in the overall feed when a post is a New Topic.

Other than that.. posts underneath a New Topic are identical to the initial topic, and hold just as much weight - Sometimes the posts in the middle of a topic even become more important than the Original Topic.

Reply to New Topic needs to be in the form of a post

Hi! I agree with you chrisrice. Our goal is to reduce to a minimum the cognitive load of using TokenBB. We want people who are used to forums to know exactly what they are dealing with. Thanks @aftabkhan10 for the suggestion though.

Topic: Fix the Upvote Slider

When I click the upvote button on a Topic or on a reply, it automatically upvotes at 10% strength by default.

I think that is a mistake and I recommend you make the default upvote strength 100% with one click @thecryptodrive @reggaemuffin @cryptoctopus

Then, if someone wants to vote less then 100% they can long press on the upvote button and adjust the slider then click on the upvote button on the popup to confirm their desired amount.

Another way to fix this would be to make it impossible to upvote with one click and require everyone to use the slider and confirm the upvote in the popup instead.

I am having issues since my upvote at 10% strength is only worth $0.002 and the threshold for payments is $0.02.

I want to upvote as many people as I can on Humanist.xyz but if it votes at 10% it doesn't even let me take the vote back and upvote at 100%.. on Steemit it's possible to change an upvote we make, but if you clear the issue and make the default upvote 100% or require a confirmation in the pop-up with the slider, it would solve both issues.

Another option is to let users take back their upvote but that might make the UI more complex and it seems like simple and basic is sometimes a better approach:

Example:

Facebook beat Myspace by offering a simpler interface.. at least that us my theory.

We probably need the ability to unvote too @reggaemuffin :)

Good point! We might also want to allow flags and everything.

But there is a discussion to be had about simplifying the current interface, basically just allowing one vote and done. We have to think about users coming from facebook who don't care about percentages and stuff like that. So it might bake sense to have the upvote button be locked at 100% for new users and then in your user settings you can enable advanced mode with percentage, unvotes and maybe downvotes.

View the topic on TokenBB

Yes.. that would be best @reggaemuffin. I believe Facebook beat Myspace due to the simplicity of Facebook 👍

@reggaemuffin I fully agree with this, default is 100% with no slider, advanced settings to enable slider. We do have to offer unvote, cause Facebook allows you to unlike.

Topic: Grouping of Topics into Categories

Will there be a facility to group Topics into Categories?

To make management of a forum easier.

A drag and drop facility for the forum administrator would be ideal.

View this topic on TokenBB

Reply to Grouping of Topics into Categories

This would be good as it would make it easier to see if someone has already created the same/similar topic.

Particularly for Bugs. At moment you have to scroll up and down the whole list of topics to see if a Bug has already been reported.

If all Bugs topics were grouped together in the list it would be quicker to scan.

You can filter from the category list, if you filter by bugs it will only show bug topics.

Hi @nojo121, I have run this past our team and we will fix the overflow, the box layout however we will decide internally which style we prefer as a default, it can be customised per theme however when a user purchases a forum. We are also looking at maybe a hybrid approach where the box is open sided on the right.

Ah okay @thecryptodrive 👍

This can be addressed in the distant future then
but I think LastPass and their Browser will become especially popular in the Steem community, especially since Steemit Inc. recommends it as an option (in a post by @steemitblog).

LastPass is a password keeper but in their app.. they have a secure Browser.

This sounds like that safe browser is blocking cookies in some form or another, which blockes the cookie your computer saved that is telling tokenbb that you are you. So it will log you out.

If that browser can allow that cookie it will work. But that needs to be a feature of the browser :/

@chrisrice how popular is Lastpass browser, we are currently supporting the main browsers like Brave, Chrome, Firefox. Beyond that it is too much overhead to test every browser in a first product release, there is Opera and many others that we currently don't test.

The calculation is still wrong sometimes.. I cannot post images so I cannot give you a screenshot, but this "Topic" as an example, showed $0.00 Rewards, but once I opened it.. I can see that you already earned $0.261, so I think it should reflect in the entire Topic. I had a difficult time with my first login. Keychain and Steemconnect both failed to work in the Brave browser, Steemconnect failed in Safari, but I was finally able to login with Steemconnect in Firefox. I noticed that this happens on DavaoCity.tokenbb.io and I think it's because I have a lot of categories, and the grey header with the home button (logo) blocks some of the upper categories. If you can make the grey header with the Home button and hamburger menu in the upper right side, disappear when the drop down menu is opened, I think it will display the categories properly, even when people include a long list of categories.

It's a new feature called Autopilot I think it's called. We are yet to post about it, you are currently on VIP access via tokenbb :)

Topic: Steemfan Forum Discussion

Hi @Steem-fan, I am bringing our discussion from the Steem blog here to our forum.

Your question is:

Hello. I have a question.

I want to be the creator and the main one on the forum, but I want to give a friend access to one section, so that he can control them completely, how can this be done?

He leads a Russian-speaking community on steemmonsters.

If there is no such function now, is it planned in the future?
