Trump and Erdogan ( US vs Turkey) relations worsen as Turkey refuses to cooperate in the Middle East.

 President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey is happy to receive oil from Iran and won’t be joining US efforts to block Iranian crude exports. US officials traveled to Ankara hoping to get the nation on board with the planned energy blockade. But Turkey, which receives more than half of its oil from Iran, rejected the proposal.

The commander of the Revolutionary Guard Corps warned US President Donald Trump that steps to undermine Iran’s energy sector would be “a mistake.” 

It is a rather tough position for Turkey, as Turkey is situated near Iran, and it gets half more than half of its oil from Iran. Following the sanctions demanded by Trump will mean Turkey will have to find a new energy source for its country, but also possibly lose its relatively neutral relationship with Russian and Iran as well. 

American lawmakers are pushing the Pentagon to scrap its decision to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, citing Ankara’s openness to buying Russian S-400 air defense missile system. On Tuesday, US senators amended the legislation, effectively delaying shipment of the warplanes. 

The situation in the middle east, following the shot down of the Syrian fighter jet continues to worsen, and it will be interesting see what these events will cause in the near future.
