Looks like a Dv12, a medium-weight diesel-hydraulic road locomotive (as opposed to a shunter) and the most common diesel locomotive in Finland. Made in Finland by Valmet Oy Tampere/Rauma-Repola Oy Lokomo between 1963-1984.

You are getting really with monochrome! For me I find it quite difficult not to get a very flat and boring effect. It’s difficult to get the light and shade properly contrasted.

Thanks. The flat an boring effect can be helped with adding contrast but also with other tricks. You can have something physically clearly closer in the foreground, choosing an angle that enhances the impression of perspective and shifting the focus the right way.
